PCGS "SP" denomination

I just purchased a 1965 SMS Kennedy in "SP66". Does anyone know what "SP" means? Is it Satin Proof? If so, I didn't know the Mint had Satin Proofs in the 1960's. I thought that was a fairly new type of strike. ?
