SHARING... (would a better one word title be: COUNTERFEIT?!?)

first, for TwoSides2aCoin:

For those that have seen my previous picture posts, you will know already why there are no pictures. I can't get a good enough closeup to show the details. But, you'll want to at least read the bottom lines.

situation:
2x$500 boxes of half dollars

score:
the kid finds 2 x 1964 and 6 x 90%
me: 2 x 90% (a one and only silver in one box)

the kid also turned up at least 7 post-2001, including a 2006

the kid also found a 72 with what I hope isn't mercury coloring (I have it) and part of a broken link soldered to the top edge of the coin above the "E" in Liberty.

and...
the kid also found a "1965" .... 'thing' that I think is a counterfeit !?!?! image
Sorry, no pictures of this albatross.
It doesn't ring quite like a clad nor a real '65 nor even a real '64 for that matter.
The edge is reeded, but the reeding is odd at the top and bottom where something like rims are present as if the sides were layered on or was heavily plated some way on the sides. Plus, the thing looks like it might have an orangish middle layer under the dark crud. (even the kid noticed the coloring and was puzzled by it)
It is a lot shinier than a regular silver half dollar, but not as shiny as the silver colored jewelry piece found. However, it is closer to the jewelry piece than a regular coin, clad or silver or clad proof.
The stars on the reverse and "e pluribus unum" nd the cluster of arrows are not as well defined as on a real coin.
The surface is kind of pitted, but so is the jewelry piece, but not like any of the other 90% coins found tonight.

I was thinking maybe it is a dud counterfeit of a proof 65?

But who would counterfeit a '65 half dollar?!?
