PCGS new rules on the Price Guide: My Statement

On October 1st I renewed my Collectors Club membership for another year, as I have always been pleased with the services PCGS has offered. When I paid my fees, included was access to the PCGS Price Guide, which I use on a regular basis. All of the sudden PCGS takes most of this away and puts it in thier beloved "Coinfacts" website that we must now pay an extra monthly fee for.

My question to PCGS is how can you take away the basic principles of our membership clubs AFTER we have paid for them in good faith? Wouldnt it be a much more ethical plan to change this after the collectors membership term expires?

If they can do this to thier members whats next? Will we find the Pop reports gone to "Coinfacts" tomorrow as well? Will we get bills in the mail if next week they decide to raise the membership fees?

PCGS, Customer Satisfaction should always be the top priority.

the price guide was never part of the collectors club, it was free on the site. I dont see what this has to do with your renewal.

I grumbled about it too, but the price guide was always free.

And don't forget, the PCGS price guide is still free on Heritage's site, and with PCGS if you have a registry in the series you are looking up.

I appreciate the info guys, especially about the other price guides. It just got me really ticked off they did it in such a robotic manner.

True there are, but the point of the matter is that it is a bit unetheical in business to not for warn your customer base that what was once free will now have a fee.

but they are hurting to make a profit margin set by the major holders in the company

just read what HRH wrote- he works to hard for a 62 year old owner of the company..

I wonder if he would like to switch jobs with me for a few months- I need to have a bit of down time..

There's nothing stopping you from compiling all this info and providing it yourself at no charge, is there?

Easy to be free with other people's time and resources, isn't it? image

    Hh06.
The way I see it is like this:

The price guide has always been free.

PCGS had plans for (and announced multiple times) big changes that were coming.

One of the changes was a new and improved CoinFacts.

A new price guide feature (i.e. the in between grades) meant for the expanded Coin Facts was rolled out early and offered for free as a preview.

Now that Coin Facts is up and running the preview is over.

    That's how I see it.

I need to look for how I get to the Price Guide from my Walker registry set. I just tried the PG and didn't get anywhere in the lower grade Walkers except to the Coin Facts signup page.

Are you sure it's still available for registry owners?

    I'll keep looking...

While people don't like it when such things occur, I see nothing the least bit unethical about it.

Not to mention- maybe a "Thank you" is in order for the "free stuff" in the first place?

    Just a thought...

I just paid my annual membership and coinfacts annual fees together. It averages about a dollar a day for both, and that includes 8 submissions (with slight restrictions), plus whatever quarterly freebies (which I've never taken image ) PCGS graciously offers 4 times per year. That's like 1 submission per month which averages $30.
Now consider the submissions one makes or the information one takes. Does it benefit him ?
It's all a matter of perspective.

Is it a shame it costs money? Yes. But at the same time, it'd be nice to get it with membership fees. Those fees ain't cheap in the first place.

Don't complain too much. Next someone at PCGS will have the bright idea of charging for access to this message board.

Thank you for the free services you have provided PCGS - on line membership and access, shared orders, this board, price guides, etc.

You can also get a price by using the cert verification at pcgs.
Not nearly as good as the price guide but if you are looking at a pcgs coin you can at least find the current pcgs value for it.

Thanks for the reminder. Definitely not as good as the expanded price guide was, but easier that way than going into Heritage if I want to check on one of my coins or a prospective purchase imageimage
