Morgan Dollar Experts, What am I looking at here?

UtahCoinUtahCoin Posts: 5,366 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was flipping through some circulated Morgan Dollars and this caught my eye. It's a 1903, and it has what seems to be a faint shadow of a tilted O mint mark.

I'm sure if you post the obverse, people could identify the VAM to confirm or deny the O, but in the mean time, I don't see an O.

The only "O" I can find is in "DOLLAR." The rest looks like circulation damage & normal wear.

Yeah I see what your refering too. I checked VAMWORLD but didn't see anything that would identify this potential variety.

I see what you're talking about and think it's just a incidental circulation mark that appears to make an "O". Is it raised in that area? I had a similar mark on an 1886-"S" Morgan. Turned out to be an 1886-P.

I would say that what you have there is a Morgan Dollar! (My wife thinks I'm a smart-ass...I can't figure out why!)

Seriously, I see what you are talking about, and its not an O mint mark. Its more likely just am odd hit with circulation wear and toning, giving the effect of an "O". Just my opinion, and based on a photograph, so take it for what its worth...
