Yes... while some stations will scan as well as sign for the transfer/acceptance of a Reg. mail item... some just sign for it... it may not show up in tracking until it arrives at delivery station...
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free

You ship something and then check on it within a couple of hours? Quit wasting your time on www.usps.com and go read some auction catalogs, look through heritage archives at real coins, or join coinfacts and enrich your coin knowledge....
Great this is being discussed. I too mailed a valuable for the first time registered 24 hours ago and it too hasn't shown up. The postal clerk informed me that I could input the label id # into the tracking field on the website and monitor, but alas to no avail. So reading this thread has made me less nervous. Thanks OP for having the same thing in mind today...
After a day,all registered I shipped comes up on the site,as "accepted"..... Then nothing til it is delivered. Do watch to see they scan it into the system......Would not be concerned, alot of safeguards in place to prevent any loss.
Delivery information will provide delivery status or attempted delivery status when the item reaches its destination, it will not provide tracking of the item as it is enroute to its destination.
Figure that the Pony Express has a month to get it to you. That's how long you have to wait before filing a claim. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but the the last three things that have been shipped to me with Registered Mail have all taken between 2 and 4 weeks to get to me. I'm currently waiting for one now that was sent two weeks ago. The previous post has the details correct - you won't see anything after "Accepted" until it is delivered (although sometimes it shows up in tracking when it reaches the destination PO).

Sorry for the shouting- I'm just hoping maybe someday people might finally get it.

Fedex offers registered mail?

<< <i>When I use Priority Mail w/ delivery confirmation, the PO scans the item when I pay for the services which activates the tracking system. >>
<< <i> The reason it's normal for the USPS is that ONLINE TRACKING IS NOT A SERVICE OFFERED OR AVAILABLE FOR REGISTERED MAIL. >>
Or anything else other than Express Mail
All the time - no big deal.

The clerk is wrong. Direct from the USPS website:
What are the characteristics of Registered Mail?
Delivery information will provide delivery status or attempted delivery status when the item reaches its destination, it will not provide tracking of the item as it is enroute to its destination.
