Even though many of the pundits here don't like the design (and that includes me), this may be a coin that the TV Hucksters promote. For myself, I'm selling off all but one to JMRC/MCM, and that subsidizes the price that I pay and therefore gets me there for less than bullion. With the tiny eagle "bird" on the reverse, I think it also qualifies as a CC quarterly special, and hopefully PCGS offers First Strike on these.

I'm probably going to hold my nose and buy one, maybe two. I see no compelling reason to rush, though. I might wait and see what the mintage is doing before I do it.

I'm much more excited about the new uber-key, Margaret Taylor.image

Is he running any specials whereby we order 10 from the mint and sell them to him for a $x profit, or are there no ordering limits?

I have never fully understood something about Longacre and this morning, my curiosity gets the best of me. So I ask:

An acre is a measure of area.
As such, the adjective "long" seems misplaced.
The word "long" is usually applied to a length, not an area.

Is not "LargeAcre" more appropriate a name? Perhaps "WideAcre" if you mean that your acre is only long on one side?

It's too bad three martini lunches went out of style in 1976. Longacre could have used one of those as we reach the noon hour on the east coast. image

Thanks to those who are participating in our offer to buy these for us, which is now closed. I think the 5 coin limit will disappear quickly but we always need a decent initial supply of most new products as early as possible. The 8000 mintage doesnt seem low, but not high either considering there is no other option if you want to own a 2009 dated platinum eagle.... IMO, not a bad play at all considering any proof platinum typically carries a $200-$300 per ounce premium over melt anyway.

I decided to "back up the truck" today on all years of proof platinum prior to 2008. I am looking for a fresh $100,000+ position in pre-2008 proof platinum today. There's something for everyone in this market!!

Just out of curiousity, what was the deal? How much did JMRC wet your beak for making the order?

5 big ones as well. Never owned platinum before, can't wait to see them in person. Considering no other proof eagles were made this year and the premiums Mr. Maben mentioned, I think this will be a winner short and long term. image

John Maben = a quick $250, if you don't mind putting $8,900 to work for a few days. I guess it works for some people.

$250 ain't bad for trading some money around. John Maben/ModernCoinMart is a straight shooter.

    I agree. EZ Money.

Does anyone know when he will be having his next money give-away? I might partake, but I usually don't hang out on the BST boards.

Some folks might scoff at the offer by MCM, but a 2.8% ROI for doing nothing other than re-routing a package of coins can be fair enough these days.

my CC has not been charged but the mint has done something. My available credit is off by about 9K.
  • Looks like they are getting ready to ship it.
  • claychaserclaychaser Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭✭
CC has money hit againts limit, and the "Cancel" box on the order status page is gone. So I guess that they may ship this week.

The mint sold out of these, whcih surprised me due to the many (myself included) who do not like the design, especially the severed eagle head that looks like a duck.

Any word from PCGS if "First Strike" is offerred on this?
