Dipped?

Yes, No or I can't tell.

I say no, because a chemical dip would get into the stuff near the rims and strip it too.

Unless it was really really crusty near the edges and it was a very short dip in a diluted solution.

I lack the experience to tell the difference. But I can sure post drivel.
  • Hi,

No, I do not think so. Not overtly cleaned unless something is not showing in the picks, like hairlines. It appears an many mint state dimes from this period, especially the encrusted darker color more on the reverse. It may not be 100% fully original surfaces, but enough appears to be present there for it to exceed "market acceptability" IMHO. I like the look - better than the even gold of a Mercury Proof dipped 15-20 years ago. I am not saying this dime you have shown has secondary toning - at worst I am saying it appears to me to have mostly intact (or more) original surfaces.

    Hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
    Eric

    Edited for spelling.

Some originality appears to be missing, but little do I know, especially by photo.

I say yes it has and just like the prior statement above says. The fields are way too clean compared to the rim area.

Most likely dipped and probably many times flipped.

Looks like it's been dipped by an amateur using something like e-z-est and the experiment didn't get the heavy crust off. JMHO.

Dip on a tip (Q-tip that is) is my guess. Outright dipped, no.

I'll say YES, Too much black in all the cracks tone will not only be in the center of the eights in the date and not around it just not right, But that is just me.

Has a decidedly strange look doesn't it. Might be the photo. My first impression was iky. But the guys above say "not cleaned" and some say "cleaned." So I'm in the camp of "suspect messed with but not sure." And I'm also in the camp of "pass on the coin, too many people think it's cleaned, so even if it hasn't been, they it might be hard to sell." Just say no to the coin.

$50 says it was bb'd/GEN'd for environmental damage, then EZ-ESTed via a Q-TIP, resubbed and holdered.

    I don't think it is 100% "natural"

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
