Do you avoid "What's it worth?" threads?

If so, why?

That's why I avoided this thread image

It really depends. If it's something I think I can contribute to or I have a specific interest in, then sure I'll take a look. If it's a thread about a coin that really doesn't concern me or catch my interest, I'll skip it, much like I might skip a different type of thread on such a coin.

What is any thread worth if it doesn't have pictures?
  • OKbustchaserOKbustchaser Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yes, in general I skip them. I basically have no interest in what a particular coin can be sold for--not even my own.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Yes, I don't read any of them. I simply don't care. If a coin enters my collection it's not leaving, and I don't care what anyone says it may be "worrth" or the "value" of it.

Yep, got tired of those a few years ago. So unless the coin is question is what I collect and in the title, I will usually avoid them.

"What's is worth?" is always easily answered by "Whatever someone will pay for it". image

When I started out, I did my own homework. Looked up finished auctions, found the PCGS Price Guide, etc. It's not that hard, it just takes a little time and effort.

I do think a sticky thread with links to resources regarding "What's it worth" would be valuable and worthwhile though.

    How much. image

    Hoard the keys.
  • Yes, I do.

    For a few reasons:

    a) I don't usually know prices off the top of my head, so why bother?
    b) The poster can usually find the price online somewhere if they would just look.

I like looking at what others have. If there are credible answers, and there usually are, I just might learn something I didn't know. Along with values, there are many times when additional information is including explaining WHY something is worth what it is.

Isn't that one of the reasons people join here - to expand their knowledge of coins?

It doesn't matter how long I've been collecting, I can always learn a little more about a certain series I haven't studied or some variety I've never seen.

No, sometimes cool things pop up from time to time. At the very worst, I waste a few seconds of my time.

By siezing the opportunities afforded me, my hope is to encourage and entice numismatic interaction. I feel like a failure, but here's a coin just the same.

Do you? Avoid infers a fear. Ignore is a better choice.
