ASE Date Size Change ??

When my daughters graduated from H.S. I got them each a silver eagle; 2001, 2003 and 2009. I was looking at these coins and just now noticed that the 2009 date is much smaller than the other two. Has anyone else noticed this and are there any other differences ?

    It has been noted. There have been several minor changes over the years, typical of most long-lived coinage series. Look at the type font on the reverse of the 2009 coin compared to the earlier ones. That change occured in 2008.
