PCGS Question

This is probably the wrong place to post this question, but some of you here may know the answer.

I sent a coin express mail yesterday to PCGS. I wanted one day (walk through) service. I was expecting it would be shipped back to me tommorow. So far it is not showing up on my current orders and the tracking number shows it arrived at unit at 9:13am this morning and there was a "notice left".

I spent a lot of extra money to get this coin back fast, was there a different way that I should have done this? Is there any guarantee on turnarounds for the high speed services like that one?

Thanks in advance.

Gary

The clock does not start until they log it in.

Did you indicate on the outside of the package the level of service? I usually don't see my order entered into the system for a day or two. Once it's in the system, however, it's usually on-time in terms of turn-around.
  • I wrote on the package "1 day-Walkthrough" The problem is, it hasnt even been picked up from the post office.

Express service is listed at five days.

There is no listed service at next day except for show service levels.

  • Its the Walkthrough. 2 days.

So my assumption would have been it would go out tommorow. But, if its not even picked up from the post office that likely means I am not getting it sent tommorow.

you can not go by what the tracking says at the post office. It is not always accurate.

  • Well its now almost 7pm pacific, coin till not showing up in my current orders and tracking shows it to still be sitting at the post office. Total waste of money to overnight it.

I called CS, was told that turnaround times are just an estimate. I just dont know why a service is offered if it cannot be given. image

Tracking information isn't updated constantly nor is it often to the minute. It is the case with the USPS and with FedEx at times. Chances are PCGS has posession of the package but it hasn't been opened yet. If I recall, PCGS collects mail two or three times per day on weekdays.

It is important that the service level used is marked in the outside of the shipment. I do know that PCGS receiving is quite busy at this time and the department is slightly shorthanded due to the Houston Moneyshow beginning tomorrow.

Actually the best way to handle Walkthroughs is to wait until a show where PCGS provides the service and have your coins graded then. On the extreme end, you can use an armored courier service (no kidding) to deliver your coins to the PCGS office in Irvine. I know for a fact those deliveries get processed first before anything else.

Just curious, but was this your first submission? It sounds like you should've asked a few more questions before overnighting a package to PCGS and paying extra.

Can't help but be curious, since you brought it up, what's the coin? Why the hurry?
