GSA CC Morgan Grading Question

rld14rld14 Posts: 2,390 ✭✭✭
I have a few GSA CC Morgans, decent enough coins, one of which I think has a good shot at 65, another with some decent rim toning.

I think that I'm better off just sending these into PCGS with the GSA designation, or is it worth it to have NGC grade them in the original holders? We aren't talking soft packs... we're talking 2 82s and an 83 here, common dates that aren't rare.

So... whatcha think?

I suggest that you keep the coins in their original GSA plastic holders, and so I voted Option 1 in your poll.

If I had to pick between a PCGS holder with a GSA designation and a NGC certified GSA holder, I'd go with the latter. I just think the holders are cool to have.
  • If I HAVE to get it slabbed, then it'd be NGC in the original GSA.

    NGC with GSA holder.

For me, I like the history of the GSA holder. In a PCGS holder even designated GSA, it ends up being a boring Morgan.

Learn how to grade and save the money. You need to waste your money with NGC to tell you something is a 65? If you believe hard enough that it is a 65, then it is a 65. The original holder is the coin's pedigree. If NGC says 64, is that really going to change your mind?

I'm not a fan of raw, but I've never understood why anyone grades the GSAs.

I can't believe someone voted for PCGS. My guess is that PCGS feels sick when it has to crack the original GSA cases.
