    I had seen the coin before (it was on display at the Los Angeles ANA) but it looked even better on the cover of the Gobrecht Journal.

    I was working for Pinnacle Rarities at the time they acquired that coin from a client as part of his collection.

    I thought that it was THE most attractive business strike Trade Dollar I had seen. And I have not changed my mind in the ensuing years.image

    Edited to add: Bruce, is that textile toning on the reverse? I remember thinking it was, but had not seen that before on a Trade Dollar.

    I concur, textile on reverse and obverse as well. Unique and spectacular.

    I have seen better ones, on a technical basis, and I have no doubt that TDN has, as well. In fact, I think he owns one or more that are. But the "better" ones aren't as striking looking/gorgeous.image
