Problem with a dealer!

There is a dealer i was wondering if anyone has had done any buisness with or knows anything about. They are Charlotte gold coins or American rare coins. I have tried to contact them numerous times interested in coins they have had offered on there website with no response. Has anyone out there had any problems with them trying to contact them either by phone or E-mail? I Have had no success with either method. I just can't figure them out. I have never had anyone personally answer the phone and i have called numerous times within the last year or so.( no i am not a stalker!) The website seems up to date with a date posted up in the corner. I just don't get it!

Same here... with more than one dealer. I guess they don't need the business.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Perhaps if you leave a message something like this...

I have recently come into a large sum of money and am looking for a good place to invest it. I am new to coins but I recently picked up a Red Book and have been looking it over. If you do not charge much more than Red Book prices, I would like to purchase a large selection of coins from you. Whatever coins you might suggest would probably be a good place for me to start. I look forward to hearing from you and beginning to put together a large collection of coins...

something like that ought to get a quick response...image
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

right now IMO you really don't have a problem with them

you might if you order something, then have a
    need to call them,
and they don't answer their phone

Sounds like the kind of dealer you should

probably not want to do business with in any

event. It might even be a front to launder

    hot money.

Exactly. I'd suggest you move on to a dealer that treats you well...and then stick with that dealer and let them help you build your collection and become knowledgeable.

The date on the web site is more than likely a system macro whic simply replects the current date.

If you cannot get a response from the dealer, why continue to try? Just move along to a more responsible dealer.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • I have had that with a dealer on Collectors Corner. Basically, they don't think you are serious enough. The problem is that you probabaly said something like "my name is xxxx and I am interested in a coin that you have xxxxx" You just won't trigger their customer service nervous response with that. Some dealers think that's a bit wishy-washy. Now had you said "I found the coin I have been searching for for three years on your website. It is the perfect coin and I think your price is very reasonable and want to buy it right now" then I am sure they would have called you back.

See now, there is your problem. image

I sent Yellow River Rare coins several inquiries about a large cent they had on their website and never got a reply. --Jerry
  • Yes Yellow river has done that to me also, but then after a week he wrote to say his was deer hunting. Which was just fine at least he wrote back when he could.

I saw YRRC at a show months later and asked about the coin and was told it had sold. I mentioned that I'd inquired about it on the website and got no reply and he didn't really have a comment. --Jerry

.......... I see! I have used the wrong approach, I will have to implement that tactic in the future. It almost got me excited to sell you coins.

It'll only work once though then the dealer will be on to you.

I've talked to the Yellow River guy. He strikes me as a fella interested in the more traditional "going to shows" method of doing business. He has a website, but when I talked to him it wasn't up to date and he had everything still packed up from the last show he had been to. If I saw him at a show, I'd probably do biz with him, but he made it just a little too hard on the phone.

The pro's at NEN set the standard for me as far as internet/email/phone sales.

If Charlotte Gold or American Rare Coins didn't return my calls, I'd not press the issue and just move to another more professional dealer.

Some guys set up a website just to give them a web presence and then neglect it as far as updates, etc. I think that if you are offering items on your site then it is your responsibility to stay on top of things to make sure that questions get answered, sold items get removed/replaced, etc. Nothing miffs me more than wasting time trying to buy something only to find out it's been sold for a month and the guy just hasn't updated his site yet. It's not that hard to remove something or even just mark it sold. If your site is merely informational and not yet set up for e-commerce, then I can conceivably understand some lag time in responding, especially at this time of year when B/Ms like us get busy... but still-it's not that hard to hit "reply" to an email.

PS. The date on the home page is code built into the page by the hosting service to automatically update it with the current date...it doesn't mean that the site content has been updated however.
