Lay offs at LAX delays PCGS shipments

Coin FinderCoin Finder Posts: 7,419 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hi This is just for information in order to help people like me with coins stuck. Lay Offs at LAX have caused Registered mail to be delayed as much as 20 Business day from PCGS. This is not PCGS fault. So if you are experiencing delays in getting coins that have been graded back, that is why.

Thanks.

    WTF!
    Up to 20 days?
With Gold & silver prices bouncing up & down daily, maybe time for PCGS to look into Priority w/Ins for items under a certain $$ amount.

Can you imagine if you had lots of GAE's & the market sank substantially while in transit (not going to happen IMO, but a maddening thought).

Luckily for me I'm just up the road....but it still can take over a week to go about 100 miles.

If this is true it sounds like it's 20 days just to get out of LA

Wasn't there a Kirk Russell movie "Escape from New York?"

Now we need a movie "Escape from LA."

I have a package from PCGS shipped 10/29 that's being tracked now. On the other hand, the package shipped from PCGS 10/30 I got 10 days ago.

Just have all of your PCGS orders sent to me image

I'm in the L.A. area and they wouldn't need to go through LAX to get to my house, my Registered Mail deliveries from PCGS are usually delivered next day image

    Shipped 10/06 arrived 10/29 23 days

Shipped 11/10 arrived today 11/20 not bad 10 days

Shipped 11/12 arrived Wednesday 11/18 just 6 days

There is no predicting the USPS.image

You know I don't care for registered mail but out of full disclosure I have to say that I got a registered mail package in 1 day earlier this week. It was an envelope and came from 25 miles away but still, one day. --Jerry

Does FedEx go out of Orange County or Burbank instead of LAX?

I wonder what the source of this info is. Is there a USPS news release or what? And why would layoffs be at a hub there is much more chance of layoffs in lower traffic spots.

I thought that Registered mail was not shipped via Air but only by land transport?

Additionally, since the parcels are registered with the USPS, how on earth could an LAX employee come in contact with such parcels since they have to be in the care of USPS employees?

Yeah well I am no expert. I have two reg mail packages both shipped on November 10th 2009. To where I am, it usually only takes 3 days, business days. I called PCGS. They informed me of LAX dockworkers or loaders lay offs and that they they were backed up. The USPS must ship in locked containers that may be handled by union workers or sub contractors. I have herd from others that they are being delayed also. I have no new news other than today no Register mail.

I am also in Portland, Oregon. My package mailed from PCGS on 11/9/09 arrived on 11/16. My package mailed from PCGS on 11/12/09 has not yet arrived. It seems lately my Economy submissions arrive back to me quicker than the regular submissions. Must be a different group of graders for economy?

What private insurance companies will cover FedEx shipments?
  • I'm in VA and had a package shipped from PCGS on 11/10 and still haven't received it.

Does PCGS give this option to people without a FedEx account? I'm not a dealer and like most non dealers don't have a FedEx account. I know ANACS ships via FedEx unless you specifically state USPS Registered shipping.

You don't have to be a business to have a FedEx account. Just go to fedex.com and create an account (it's free), charges will be billed direct to your personal credit card.

The last time I looked at FedEx's terms, they wouldn't insure coins. Has this changed? If not, anyone using FedEx to have their coins shipped might want to allow for that by purchasing insurance from an alternate source.

Good news! My package from PCGS arrived this afternoon. The USPS site this afternoon showed nothing but acceptance by the LAX post office last 11/12/09.

    My coin received on 11/4

    shipped on 11/13

    received on 11/23

distance: 213 miles or 21.3 miles per day. If a man can walk 3.0 miles per hour he can walk 24 miles in 8 hours.

But, I doubt if a man could walk through S. Cal and the Mojave Desert without incident so, PCGS does it the slow
    but sure way!

    Thanks PCGS and USPS!

There have been no layoffs at USPS anywhere in the country. Zero.

    What are you talking about?

  • And has PCGS slowed down grading in step with this?

But coins are not insured by FedEx. You have to buy private insurance as well.
