picked up a matte proof Lincoln today at the Fargo coin show

Made a trip to Fargo today and after browsing around for awhile I spotted a nice PCGS PR-64RB 1914 matte proof Lincoln cent. Since this is one of 4 dates I need to finish my set and nothing else really caught my eye I completed the transaction by trading an 1888 PR-63 RB Indian cent and $900 cash and the matte proof Lincoln was mine.
Since I love Silver bullion I also picked up 27 Engelhard prospectors from 1984 for $509 which was 40 cents over spot.
Forgot to add that the matte proof Lincoln was kind of odd in that the obverse was a full red coin while the reverse was only 25% red.
I also forgot to add that there was a coin show today in Fargo but the big one is coming in January when we usually are battling 20 below zero temps.

<< <i>Norseman88, very nice!! I love the Matte lincolns! Any pics? These are great sets! >>
Thanks, no pics as I have no digital camera and lack some of the skills that many people here have for taking outstanding pictures.
I also agree that the matte proof Lincoln set is one of the best sets for collectors combining extremely low mintages with a very unique looking coin. When one considers how few nice ones are left with what they cost they seem like a bargain to me even if prices have risen considerably from what they were 5-10 years ago.
Maybe i should also work on a set of matte proof buffalo's???
<< <i>Very good deal on the 1914. 3 more to go.
Yeah and the three left are 1909-VDB, 1915 and 1916.
P.S. just saw the list, not sure I can help with the VDB but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I see you saved the best for last.

Well, a couple months ago I almost had a 1915 in an NGC 64 brown holder which was really blue but due to miscommunication someone else wound up with it. As for the 1909-VDB I'm afraid that might have to wait for an inheritance as they have gone ballistic in the past few years, of course it is a rare coin so maybe it is simply a matter of being priced properly instead of cheaply.
<< <i>You got yourself a pretty good deal! >>
Thanks I hardly ever see these for sale at the local shows so if i find a nice one I will buy it if i have the funds.
In fact the dealer I bought it from said he used to buy 4-5 per year and now he's lucky if he can find 1-2 a year.

Probably lived in a folder (or case) for many years where the reverse was resting against something with a chemical reactant.
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!

I think you're right, infact I looked at it again today and I would have to say it's more like 15% red on the back with the other color being a dark bluish brown color.
