Three Hours at the Bay State Show

I drove to Boston for the Bay State Show. Never had been to this show before, so it was going to be fun, as all new shows are. I arrived about 45 minutes early, so I got to hang around in the "lobby" outside of the show entrance listening to numismatic chit-chat. None of it was interesting, some of it was factual, lots of it was speculative. Better than a sharp stick in the eye, at least. Six bucks to get in. Plenty of dealers present with many of the nationally-known dealers included, most likely due to the show also being part of the Colonial Coin Collectors Club annual convention (and auction!). I talked with John Kraljevich first thing inside the door. He was more than very helpful, as usual. He had a couple of Naval Medals I pondered purchasing, but pondering is all I did. I didn't find any capped bust half dimes to buy. There were a few decent ones on the bourse floor, nothing to write home about though. Found one in its NGC Jules Reiver holder (1833 LM-3.4), which was cool. I looked at a number of Classic Head Large Cents, to include six or seven of them at Tom Reynolds' table. Looked at examples in the G-6 to VF range, but did not find one that really stood out as "the one" for me. I did appreciate how Mr. Reynolds took the time to discuss with me the proper care of large cents. Talked to forum member "cape" for a while. His case was mostly empty, since he pretty much sold out his inventory a day or two earlier. I didn't notice a lot of precious metals transactions, but then again, I really didn't look for such transactions...so I can't tell you what was going on with PM at the show. Pretty much empty-handed, I stopped at the table of Charles Davis before leaving to pick up a copy of Volumes 1 and 2 of the William C. Noyes "United States Large Cents." Looking forward to reading and using these books.
No traffic to speak of on the way home, which was very cool. $19 for parking, not bad for Boston.

<< <i>Just curious, what is the going price for the Noyes books these days? Yours new or used? Thanks, Kaz >>
$240 for the two volume set. I understand that Charles Davis has an exclusive arrangement (i.e. he is the only authorized seller).
<< <i>Is CAC at the Bay State Show? Any TPGs? >>
no CAC. I saw an ANACS table, not sure if there was on-site grading or if they were just accepting submissions and offering opinions.
