Toned Coins..

What are all your opinions on toned coins??

I love em, but they are just too darned expensive..

I know there are a few sites here that specialize in them on the cheap..

But yeah, what do you guys think about them? Worth it in the long term if one were to resell them?

Yes, the good ones command a premium, I think it is sometimes worth paying. I try to keep away from those that test the limits of credibility. You can also buy 'a little color' that can enhance a coin for a little or no premium.

I like toned coins at reasonable prices. I will not pay the "next higher grade" for a toned coin.

I love them, I usually pay 2500+ for my A+ toners. I know people will think I'm nuts but the same can be said for people who like blast white coins

Uh oh....loaded topic my friend.....I personally don't buy white coins.....I just prefer the color and unique nature of toned coins. Other can't stand them...again just personal preference but I think we can all agree that you shouldn't be buying toned coins or any coins for that matter for long term financial gain.....personal pleasure yes but not as far as an investment. I have made countless thousands of dollars in profit buying and selling toned coins over the years and I am not even a dealer but in my experience you have to have a pretty solid knowledge of the market, be willing to tell AT vs NT vs MA a high percentage of the time and be willing to take some serious risks from time to time purchasing some raw material. I would never advise spending more than you can afford to lose on a toned coin.....meaning if you buy a coin for say $200 and you can't afford to lose a chunk of that if times get tight and you have to sell then toned coins may not be for you. I am not saying you are guaranteed to lose the money as that has not been my experience at all.....but since there are no established values for eye appeal and color.....a coin worth $500 to you may be a coin worth $250 to other buyers.

Although I really like toned coins, my preference is indeed blast white coins.

I have toned and white coins. I prefer toned coins, but not the really wild vibrant colors that are currently in vogue. And I do not pay over the top for toning.

I like both white and toned coins. I put much more weight on luster when buying MS coins. If the coin is toned, but has subdued luster, chances are I will pass. The same holds true for white coins.

I love true original toned coins.

Sometimes these coins exhibit 'muted' luster. They don't get the grades they deserve from the TPG's, but I love them just the same.

I do not like the neon colored toned coins. NT or AT, it doesn't matter, I still don't like them.

I prefer toned coins and I will pay multiples of any price sheet for the correct ones. Its jsut about a personal preference, I know there are several collectors who are willing to pay above price guide prices for the correct white coins so I think its just about preference. Quality coins sell for a premium regardless of toned or white and it just comes down to what you like

I think this statement hits the nail on the head! There are certain coins that just jump out and grab you by the face! These are the coins for which you can virtually never find an equal, in spite of decades of searching. They may not be the most expensive or the highest grade, but they are the best of the best. What constitutes the best of the best? It is individual in nature, subject to one's tastes and preferences, and almost impossible to put into words. But when you see it, you will know........

Years ago when toned coins weren't so much I feel in love with them and

haven't fallen out yet. Like been said the super nice REAL ones are just too

high priced so I watch for deals every where and pounce on one every once

and a while. I have started buying a few ATs just for fun because they look neat

and don't cost too much right now.

I have seen very few toned coins that I would purchase, much less pay a premium for. I prefer the natural clean look.

most of the white coins are dipped so they arent natural anymore.

I like toned coins and white coins, as long as they are ORIGINAL looking coins.

I have white coins, I have toned coins, I have mediocre coins, and I have ugly coins. Some
coins are so ugly you just have to love them. I would not pay a premium for a toned coin.

I pay premuims for the "right" toned coins

I have also paid premiums for the "right" white coins

While my preference and most of my collection is toned coins, some designs look better white imo and I buy those when the right one shows up.
