Mintages may mean less going forward than they did in the past. There is a larger number of coins going off the market than before. I'm not sure where they're going--overseas, telemarketers, TV, etc. But the supply isn't matching the mintage.

  • "Going off the market" in the end is a form of demand and granted its always supply and demand but the killer part of the demand curve pricing comes up when the supply gets very very tight. Demand at LOW Q = HIGH price. Low mintages in good looking series has long been the best place to be and is likely to continue to be so. The low mintage good looking stuff long term rules.....

7/8 you're very funny, did you see the big move up on the 2008 w gold buffalo?

Maybe the plat and gold will continue higher for all of us.

Mintage smitage, if you bought at 1360 you can still make money on resell, they are priced now at 1410 and could go up again!

    Besides its gold man gold!!!!!!

I mentioned on another thread, no real risk in the proof 09-w buffaloes.......

wholesale buy is 200 over spot for any proof buffalo......puts you at about 1340 right now........very very little risk as long as gold spot cooperates.

most recent shared order page reading seems to indicate the proof 09s are about 50/50 pr70/pr69. some submitted as singles, some in herds

  • I will point out that anyone with the one ounce buffalo coins will be sooner or later drawn to the one year of fractionals.

From a standpoint of the fractionals the more 2009-2020 1 ounce buffalo they mint the better.

While I agree the mintage for the 2009 $50 Gold Proof Buffalo seems high, I think we have to remember that there is no Gold Proof Eagles being produced this year. The main question is, are the people that previously bought the one ounce and fractional Proof Gold Eagles going to be buying the $50 Proof Buffalos instead? That said, the demand for physical gold is clearly on the rise (anybody want to argue that), so my personal conclusion is that people ARE going to be buying the Gold Proof Buffalos as a replacement and thus the demand for these items is going to be much stronger than many of us anticipate...

I must say I received my 2009 proof gold Buffs today and they are breathtakingly beautiful coins made from near solid gold. Beautiful cameos and well struck. I think these 2009 issues are better in quality than the other years. I think the mint gets better with these as time goes on. The grading pops may bear this out if someone were to do a study. No need for slabbing these coins, they will sell themselves in years to come.

    I'm hoping when mine comes it's 100% solid gold!image

And to think Moy didn't want to mint these. What a lazy bum.

They originally said no gold is available, then Moy found out that the law says he has to mint these, now all of a sudden we are approaching 40K coins !!!!

I guess Moy had a ton of gold just sitting around.

    Moy needs to be replaced..
