Pics make it look recolored, but I don't know why someone would go to the trouble on an '06.
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.

I guess the dark area on the obverse to the right and the splotchy lighter spots around the head & hair.
I think it's looks OK in hand, I was just surprised at what my photos showed off.

It's tough to judge by photos. I'm sure you did your best but the photos are drab. No luster, flat. Could be just inadequate lighting.
I wouldn't be concerned by the dark shadow. And the irregular toning can be normal.
If the coin looks natural in hand I'd say ignore the pix and enjoy the coin. As Doh said, why mess with a 1906?
