What are your opinions on ANACS now vs. a few years ago?

PCGS is the most consistent and the market also agrees. I have a lot of the old ANACS holders but also PCI as well they both were very good until they were acquired and wrecked by there new respective owners.
The PCGS Genuine holder will make it nearly impossible for ANACS to regain its former place in the market though there is need for more TPG's
NGC is said to be offering net grades for problem coins as well - I don't know if that is accurate but if it is ANACS is pretty much not relevant any longer in my opinion.
Nowadays, I wouldn't even waste anything on using them.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

All grading is judgmental, there are no absolute standards, especially as to the proper weighting of the many separate factors that contribute to a coin's eye appeal or lack of it.
No disrespect, but ANACS's Ike grading is presently more consistent than PCGS's IMHO.
ANACS also is on the cutting edge of Ike Varieties, even though this entails some risk of getting caught in descriptors that will inevitably change with time and better understanding of underlying mechanisms in a Series as young as Ikes. Rob

I have sent coins to all three and ANACS grades just as well as PCGS and NGC. The marketplace gives PCGS and NGC a leg up on coins but I don't agree.

I recently sent in some Morgans to them and they graded about what I hoped. right on or within a point!

Now as far a grading companys, PCGS and NGC are more market acceptable. That being said I believe there are many nice coin in other holders, but you have to know how to grade properly AND guess on how the top 2 are thinking at the time if you plan on crossing them over.
If your not looking at coins in other holders you are missing out on some fine coins. Now that's OK I or someone else will pick them up and enjoy the bargin.

I sent this 87-S/S UDM to PCGS for crossover and it came back "Altered Surfaces" This was my first big lesson not to buy Anacs graded coins anymore.
I don't hesitate to buy a nice coin in an ANACS holder, new or old. I try to stay focused on the coin.

Worth trying again I'd say. And there's always NGC.

How big of a lesson is it, and are you willing to try again?
I have had an 1820 Large Cent and an 1839 Large Cent, both NGC, rejected first time by PCGS as questionable color. They both graded the second time by PCGS, albeit one grade lower each.

Obviously a huge difference over what the CAC can do for sight-unseen buyers!

I think they accurately grade and most of all designate what I want clarification on... and the prices realized tend to show the grading capabilities work.

Somehow I don't think that Obama PCGS slab is authorized by PCGS, I'm betting its an aftermarket sticker.
