but MS64 would not be a stretch --
it has to be one of the other --

This time I think they are.
<< <i>My guess was 63. When I scrolled down and saw the PCGS grade is 66, I decided either they or I are nuts.
This time I think they are. >>
After looking at my pcgs ms-64 I have got to say the coin graded ms-66 Is a better strike, but the hits on the 66 is distracting enough to hold it back ,IMO.
<< <i>Any chance that luster compensates for strike issues? Just sayin'.... >>
I was thinking the same thing, but even if the luster is booming (which the image doesn't show), I could still not imagine the coin going higher than a 64 do to the hits on the buffalo. Just my thoughts...

I would say MS64. I wonder is this an error perhaps? it is not easy to stretch the reverse ticks and the weakness though common on a 35 to MS66.
I hope some experts would chime in on this.

1) David Hall's pic's in general aren't that great
2) No matter what, you can't grade with certainty off of pics
3) The holder does appear to have some scratches
4) Can HRH ask for a presidential review and/or use the guarentee?

not good at all,
very dissappointing, even when we only have a picture to look at.

<< <i>At this point I am posting after the grade of MS66 has been disclosed. My initial impression was MS64, but at MS66 I would imagine this coin must have significant flash and luster in-hand. >>
By this statement your saying that a buffalo nickel can jump two grades based on luster. This would mean that a 65 buffalo could potentially be a 67, which I can't see as being plausible.
I'm not trying to bash you or anything, but I think PCGS was just snoozin' on this one. It happens - nobodies perfect.

I didn't read that into it -- just that PCGS must have seen something that isn't evident to us from the image. He didn't indicate that booming luster would make 66 the right grade, but just that maybe knock-your-socks-off luster might make the grade higher than the image would seem to suggest.
Having said that, based on the image I might have said strong 63/weak 64.
