Yea, but this is better than nothing. I know that wasn't transfered becuase there on totally different servers. It would prob take lots of connection to do that. That would have taken them forever.

I hate to say this but PSA is about to lose market share on graded cards. Mainly modern cards, but none the less, it'll happen because of this. I hope Beckett learned a lesson and fired whatever idiot executive cost them a lot of money. Looks like I'll be doing the vintage thing here and the modern thing there!

In the end, competition is good for this hobby. Beckett and PSA are the two big boys and
they will compete for market share.

No, just sheet cut cards. Trimmed cards are also ok if they fall within guidelines.

I am not so sure I agree that PSA will lose market share on graded cards because the Beckett Registry is back to the way it was. Will it lose some people? Sure.
I think most of the people that converted (if they converted) will stay where they are. Only a small portion will return. I would say the same thing if the situation were reversed for PSA and BGS.

If the belief is that BGS is better for modern cards, then modern collectors probably didn't move their collections to PSA when Beckett changed everything. You can't register PSA cards there. You can't register BGS cards here. So, in my opinion, either everything stayed the same or PSA gained. I don't believe everyone that jumped ship and came to PSA is going to jump ship again, and go back to BGS. Once again, just my opinion.

There was a study that was done that showed that business that cut their sales/marketing budgets during a down economy permanently lost customers to competitors who continued or increased their sales/marketing force during the same economic downturn. I am certainly not an expert, but my guess is the same would apply to this situation as well.

I deleted all my cards when the switched to the atroticity of the new site. As someone said, too little too late. I no longer collect anything in a beckett holder. SGC & PSA -- I'll buy Beckett & cross...

Look at what is actually showing up as slabbed by BGS.

A registry isn't all that useful if your collection is primarily composed of just modern high-end rookies, because that's not about set completion, except for the guys trying to get at least one of every rookie card of a player.

People aren't putting together many sets in BGS slabs.

vlad - maybe for autograph insert sets, but taking a look at their registry for such key sets as 1993 Finest Refractors (baseball), there's very little serious collecting going on, for 1986-87 Fleer basketball, they have only 2 complete sets and only 16 at 50% or above, and for 1998 Topps Chrome football (Manning and Moss rookies), nobody is at more than 4 cards, with no refractors sets even being started.

You got to keep in mind that the registery you're looking at is a year old and many people had deleted collections when the site switched as the old registery was available for about a week, also many people choose to keep registeries private..

I know of 8 complete sets of 1986 fleer basketball that are not registered..
I sold a 1988 fleer basketball set in BGS 9.5 about 65% complete to a guy who is finishing it off and never registered it as well as a another set in 9 about 40% finished

Though there is not even a fraction of how many registeries PSA has, it's not as dead as the SGC registery..for 1980's basketball..

As a former BGS Registry person, and that's how I started chatting with Dizzle about cards and found this message board way back when, I can't see this doing much to bring customers back. The reason they revamped the old registry into the disaster it became was because it was imperfect to begin with. They had stopped assigning subgrades to vintage cards but the old ones that did have subgrades were figuring into the registry differently. They've basically thrown away any hope of competing with PSA/SGC for pre 1980 cards and since their player registries take into account post-career cards, there is really no hope at ever competing a player set.

Look, I like BGS's slabs, I like their customer service, but amazingly, I see no real reason to do business with them anymore. The only things I would grade with them are modern rookies that are so hit or miss that I'd be throwing away money anyway unless I hit a 9.5 Pujols/Reyes/Wright-type during their rookie year before they became who they were. Grading anything other than that with them is just throwing away resale value - and as someone who just took big losses liquidating my 57 and 69 BGS basketball sets, let me tell you - it's no fun.

Yeah I know, That's why I made the comment above saying BGS does not even have a fraction of registery collectors as PSA does..

As stated many of times "The registery is a powerful drug"
