Hello & 1st Question!

Hello all!

I have been a long time lurker and this is my first post! I want to thank everyone for the plethora of information on the boards. I am primarily a gold collector. I specialize in type gold and have actually completed some of the smaller date and mm sets (Classic Head $2.5, $2.5 Indian and Classic Head $5)

My question is as follows. When selling generic gold (mainly $20's) at shows, dealers generally take out a sheet distributed by a major dealer (I assume) with his or her bid prices for the coins and then offer a price less than that. I assume that they sell the coin to that major dealer for a locked in profit. Does anyone know this major dealer that publishes their bid/ask prices for generic tpg gold? TIA

You can purchase it on-line for a few bucks. There are multiple versions.... weekly, monthly and quarterly. $20 will get you the most recent of all versions.

It is not the greysheet. I know what the greysheet is. It is usually a single piece of paper that the dealers get daily via fax.

It is likely a buy broadcast from one of several dealers that have a presence on the C.C.E. or FACTS dealers networks. They typically will only make those offers to other member dealers of the C.C.E. or FACTS, and do not deal directly with J.Q. Public.

It might also be Heritage's generic gold indications.

I quess you don't really know what the Greysheet is. image

Not published daily. Not faxed. It's more like a mini-news paper.

The CDN is not a dealer, and they don't buy or sell coins.
(But, imho, they do a great job at being out of touch) lol image

Welcome. Great questions. Could be Heritage Gold Fax, or the buy sheet from RARCOA (i think that's who it is).

It may be some sort of gold prices with calculations on the amount of profit based on a percentage. It could be an insider trader sheet.??

I think RYK's right - it's probably the Heritage sheet.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Ok- I'll guess that he does know. When he said "It is usually a single piece of paper that the dealers get daily via fax", he wasn't describing the greysheet- he was describing something else.
