    From 2006 State Tax Summary:

    Investment coins and bullion
The sale of investment metal bullion and investment coins will be exempt from sales and use tax. This does not include jewelry or works of art made of coins nor commemorative medallions. This will be effective in 60 days.

    Google and ye shall find...
  • When they were trying to come up with a new budget this summer/fall, the idea of adding a tax to coin/bullion sales was toyed with, but it did not happen. We are NOT charged taxes on coins or bullion here.
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.
  • OK,
Thanks... I just won an auction on Ebay and the seller is charging the 6%. Just wanted to make sure before I contacted the seller.

Allegheny County and Philadelphia County do have sales taxes, though.
  • Seller is from Harleysville, PA (Montgomery county)

Like the name of the city.....

  • I'm from Pa. and a while back I sold off some of my Silver Eagles. When I was doing the listing they required me to put in the % of tax. When the auction closed the tax was listed as $0.00.
  • Mine is coming up at 6% and I can no longer contact buyer via regular e-mail(when did that start??) when I click on contact seller it only has two questions of which neither one is relevant to what I want to ask and doesn't actually let me contact seller. EBay is really starting to %$#@$%#
The seller fees are getting rediculous and restrictions stink.

It doesn't matter what you click to ask them a question, they'll still get it and can answer you. Or just go to their ebay name, by the feedback, and click to ask them a question. Just wondering, was their email addy in the email from eBay saying you'd won? I can't remember as a buyer what's in that email... but then again, it changes constantly.

I'm sure I can ask seller a question via one of his live auctions but find it strange that I can not ask him a question from our completed auction.

You need to scroll to the bottom of that question page and you find a button that says "contact seller"
Then on the tax issue, perhaps the seller is also licensed in your state and has to collect tax for your state not for his state.

Thanks for the scroll down hint... can't see how I missed thatimage

I live in PA also.. that is why he was charging the tax per his auction listing. So ... bottom line is he shouldn't be collecting tax.

Thanks everyone for your help on this.

I tried to ask a question yesterday about an item and got only the generic question. He got it but didn't know what item I was talking about. I think ebay has a programming error right now that is not on purpose and they will eventually fix. They do stupid things on purpose but I doubt this is one of them.

As for checking your facts before contacting seller, that isn't really allowed. You should always shoot first and ask questions later. image --Jerry
