Food for thought, no? Is everyone OK with how this worked out? I don't really know what to think of it, actually. >>
Coin was listed with a BIN. OP bought it. What more could a person want? Other than some of the two faced hypocrites that post their spew occasionally. >>

Yes, walk it in, if it slabs get a photo with Mr Hall or Mr Willis and keep it with the coin.
Get Fred's blessing on the coin in writing, get Coin World to write it up, post it on The IKE Group Web Site and all this can only add to the publicity and value of the coin.
Keep all documentation for future reference with the coin.
Wow! This case made it into the Dec 7th, 2009 edition of 'Coin World' magazine!
On page 36, Attorney Armen R. Vartian concludes "Courts are reluctant to allow parties to commercial transactions to turn "seller's remorse" into rescission of their contracts, and I doubt that a court would do so in this case."
I wanted to chime in on this weeks ago, but time escapes me and ive finally got a day off. I am very happy to see this guy get his coin. Afterall, the seller got their money. In full-for exactly what they posted a BIN price. The transaction was complete at that point; we cant really argue that! He didnt "rip" off some old lady. He paid her asking price to the penny (which was not a clerical error) and I dont believe there is anything deceitful or unethical about wanting the coin to be delivered at that price. If anything it was the SELLER who had integrity issues. Everyone chastising this man on a public forum, especially those of you who shamelessly accused him of "theft" have truely never been on the short end of the stick, have you? Well, score one for the "little guy." He got a great deal, and has been rewarded for a keen eye, and taking a chance at a coin whose authenticity was in question. He made out, and Im glad it went his way. And hats off to the seller, who chose in the end to do the right thing over a making a dishonest buck... Even if we're talking a billfold here.

I just got this message from an auction closed yesterday ->
Please reply. I cannot sell this coin because of a family crisis. I apologize for this. I will refund your account asap. Thank you for understanding and Happy Thanksgiving
a new eBay seller, a damaged coin with crappy pics $15 for a coin worth $1K if variety they claim - not good enough pic to say either way
what sort of family crisis would prevent going to PO sometime in next 2 weeks?

Sorry Dude.
I just sold a 2009 Mint set for less than face value. Not less than purchase price but face value. $5.00 less than face value for that matter. Not that short of a stick but a short stick none the less.
I have no idea what transpired between the buyer and the seller of the afore mention IKE but what I do find a bit distasteful is in "forcing" someone to sell a coin for pennies AFTER the seller found out it was actually worth thousands. Granted, there are a lot of "what if's" here such as "What if the seller misplaced the decimal point?" but it doesn't really matter though since the deal has been consumated.
The lesson to be learned from all of this (and a couple folks have already learned i.e. Carson City Mint bag ) and that is not to post about a buy or an item on eBay you are seriously considering until the coin or item is in hand.

Maybe she got it in a bulk lot and paid next to nothing for it. Maybe the person before her found it in a dealer junk box and paid next to nothing for it. Maybe we should research the trail all the way back to the mint in the early 1970's to make sure everyone who ever owned the coin and didn't get the fair price for it get's their cut.
Need a Barber Half with ANACS photo certificate. If you have one for sale please PM me. Current Ebay auctions

Knowledge is power. I'm sure the OP has worked hard to gain the level of knowledge he has to identify and locate such errors, and as such he should be allowed to reap the benefits.

Spoken like a real "dealer", that gives us all bad name. Cut her in Good, Offer to sue her BAD BAD BAD anyway you look at it.
I like the way Realone thinks. I am impressed with the seller as it seems my best rips on the bay were not consummated out of what was most likely seller's remorse.
If I were in OP's shoes, I would feel great about the rip and even better after I rewarded seller.

Except for the small fact that he came to these very boards wanting to find out if folks thought is was in fact a real error and if not, should he cancel the sale.....................
