The biggest reason for me is each year it's hard to fill the 8 coin membership freebie and if there is a hole to fill in the registry I'll just fill out the rest of the submission with cheap fillers.
<< <i>Possibly given to them by a family member? I've slabbed a few $10 coins that mean someting to me. >>
I agree with this as my grand daughter gave me a coin she picked out for me and I had it slabbed although it was of very little value. I have also accumulated some junk coins because I submitted them as error coins and they did not qualify for whatever reason.
<< <i>Good quesiton about the Ikes.....maybe they thought they were 65's and worth getting graded
This Buff has no value 2-3 gradeds ABOVE what it's graded >>
Great! There are 15,000 PCGS MS-65 Ikes, and they are what...$15 or $20 coins? People will slab what they want to slab. I wouldn't slab a VF common date buffalo, nor would I slab an Ike, not that there is anything wrong with doing either.
I think that some people need to realize that if a coin is important to them it will still be important if they put it in a 2 or 3 dollar airtight coin capsule and save grading fees/mailing fees/insurance fees/time and effort etc.
Mr. Willis was not really fair, most people even when subscribed don't know how to figure out how many C type quarters thare are, myself included. I just looked and they seem to be coded with some representative number.

....booze, drugs, a self inflicted wound.....
Makes you wonder why some people do it.
I'm still trying to fathom what it would feel like to lose $100,000 from buying pop top coins for a series.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
<< <i>People slab coins for whatever reason they want. There are 10,000+ PCGS MS-64 Ikes. Why would someone slab a $10 Ike? >>
I have submitted IKE's hoping for a 66 (some are worth a nice amount at MS66 but drastically less at 65). 1972P's are a good example. (Any type - 1, 2, or 3)
I know when I was putting my Mercury Dime Set together in 2002 to 2004 I sent in a few circulated coins to help complete the set which I later replaced with Unc coins. You never know what drive people to do it, but I know I had for the reason of just wanting my set to be complete. Most of the ones I did this with where the tough to find mid 1920s. I found the best at a reasonable price and sent in a group. What the heck I had a full set.
Who knows some of those may still be POP 1 coins today.

Maybe they were making a PCGS grading set.
