Approximately 10% of the Cheerios-packaged dollars have the normal reverse.
I can tell the difference from the obverse die in the original packaging without removing the coin, but most people can't. I certainly cannot tell it from a picture.

<< <i>Is there anyway to add a dollar coin to a package containing only the cent and reseal the package? >>
The plastic cover for the cent-only is smaller, so it should be original. I think the seller doesn't know what he may be selling. I asked if he had a BIN price and he said he had an offer for $300 asking if I could beat it.
I was hoping to get this for cheap. Not anymore now that you just advertised it...geez. hehehe
I got one in 2004 for basically nothing on ebay just for kicks because I wanted the Sac variety in the cheerios holder. Found out a few years later it was worth something.
I e-mailed the seller and told him/her not to accept any cash offer and to let the auction run its course because this is a semi valuable coin. I have not heard back from him yet.
will not be able to tell what it will sell for until the end. some mega snipes will be hitting it in the last few seconds i imagine. i will guess 3300.
as for the link with those past auction prices... i truly think some folks are completely buried with them.
Well now that this is being advertised on the forum I guess I won't be able to get it for a deal. It isn't possible to identify this as the real thing from the photo. The fact that PCGS will not attribute it as a Cheerios dollar unless it has the detailed tail feathers is definitely a deterrent. I am sure that I and a few others could identify this in the original holder due to the marker on the obverse. The seller does have a reasonable return policy. This appears legitimate.
Ask the seller if this obverse die marker exists. It's a small ledge on the cloak of the Shoshone woman's shoulder. If that exists, the tail feathers should be the "boldy detailed" design. At least this is my understanding.

Sent him an E-mail telling him to cancle the auction. To great of a risk that someone swaps out the coin, finds out that its the 10% and does a charge back. Take it to a couple of dealers and take the highest offer is the way to go for this.

Certify and flip the coin for a huge profit and buy all the 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar that you can get with the money made.
It will be nice to see where this coin will go. Good luck to the seller and congrats. I am sure he had no clue what he had. I would expect this to go to no more than $7k but who knows!

Tom - Assuming that's based on coins that you've seen and heard about, how many coins is your estimate based on? >>
That percentage was based upon my knowledge of four duds back when I thought that the total population was around 40 pieces.
I have done some calling around, and nobody knows of any more duds. However, the total population known is now up around 75 good ones, so four out of 79 is more like 5%, not 10%.
Thank you for asking.

the seller isnt claiming anything special other than its a cheerios cent and sac...you could sue him for 5 years, he doesnt owe anyone anything if its a regular sac.

"Hi, thanks for the advice and link I got a good laugh out of it. The link not your advice. You guys are right that I had no I idea what I had its been sitting in my closet in a box for 9 years. I did my own research the morning after I listed it because of all the offers I received and found smalldollars.com among others and I made a bunch of calls to coin dealers. At this time I am going to let the auction run its course. I was going to end It early if it didn't get up to at least $4500 by the time that I could end it (12 hours left). If you want, let everyone know that I sent you this message. Also I haven't responded to e-mails that didn't ask a question because I have received so may about this coin. When multiple people are making offers to end the auction early, that's usually a good sign that you should let it run its course.
