What's your personal record for junk-wax busted???

I was having a difficult time finding '92 Fleer Basketball all-stars either graded PSA 9/10 or in condition to do so when buying lots on ebay. To remedy this I thought I would bust some wax. 10 boxes (over 6,000 cards) of '92 fleer series 1 (no rookies) later, I am much closer to my goal...but it makes me wonder, has anyone else busted the same junk wax in a similar search? These just were not exciting to crack, that's for sure.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

1991 leaf baseball series 1 and 2
I'm putting together an all-PSA 10, self-submitted, complete set of the gold leaf rookies.
I have 13 so far, but was getting frustrated buying sets online and getting nothing.
Busted 7 boxes total, got a couple that graded 10. It was a boring rip, so I feel your pain.
I'll spend far more on this set than it will ever be worth, more of a personal quest.
<< <i>I've busted at least 15 boxes of 1991 Donruss (not all at once though) trying to hit an elite card. Pulled a single Ryan Legends card out of all that kindling. >>
I think you win - those were atrocious looking cards...15 boxes would have been torture.
<< <i>I personally flooded the market of 1989 score suppemental football cards. I busted 6 sealed cases(60 sets per case) that I paid $360.00 shipped(1.00 per set) and I graded over 100 cards total. I ended up making around a grand on the deal. I think I ruined the market for Dermontti Dawson, Bo Jackson, and Sterling Sharpe. >>
Did you find any Elways that had no corner dings?
Kiss me twice.....let's party.
Did you find any Elways that had no corner dings?
After opening a case myself I can't imagine that there will ever be a 10 of the Elway. Impossible card. I'm even shocked that there are 9s based on what I pulled.
BTW: Cubby=Cub Fan

I didnt even look at the players....simply "fanned" the cards looking for that unmistakable glimmer of foil! It really wasnt all that bad.
cwazzy, want to bust a case or three with me?
edited to add: my personal best so far, for junk, is probably a case of 1986 Topps baseball rack packs. I just wanted to put a set together by hand...

--In search of: Erik Kramer Auto (1000 of these found only in the poly-bagged mail-order sets!!) and Dexter Manley "substance abuse" error.
1990 Upper Deck Baseball Hi#: from 2002-2007 I probably broke 20-50 boxes per year.
--In search of Mike Witt #702A , No copyright variations, Reggie Autos.
1991 Topps Baseball: From 2002 (at least) - now, I usually break 20-30 boxes (of three specific packaging types) each year, last year I probably broke closer to 50 boxes.
--In search of Mark Whiten, Doug Drabek, Chris Hoiles, Trebelhorn, Oil Can variations, Vintage "buybacks".
1988 Topps Baseball: over the last 5 years, I would say I average 10-30 boxes (mostly rack/cello) per year.

Collecting Robin Ventura and Matt Luke.
1990 Pacific Senior- busted few wax boxes and 20+ sets looking for correction and correction print flaw variation.
<< <i>jacksoncoupage...can I ask why? Are the errors that valuable? Not that the wax can be expensive, but I would think that would be a losing endgame...of couse I don't know the errors market. >>
I always hunt for the best deals on those junk wax boxes. If I can land 1990-1991 Pro Set boxes at $3-4 a piece with low shipping, I can usually make back what I spent and then some just on the basic/"common" variations from those sets. Any major variation or discovery is just extra from that point.
The 1990 Dexter Manley ERR sells for $300-400. I've never seen a "bloody nose" Paul Gillis but it's confirmed to exist and I imagine that it would go for the same amount. I previously sold the 1988 Topps Comstock with Yellow name for $100. And the 1991 Topps Drabek used to be a $100 sell easy (havent seen one available for a while now). The 1991 Whiten and Hoiles errors sell for $25-50. And if I were to land a 1990 UD Mike Witt, they can go for $600-900.
A lot of the reason I buy it is because there are still discoveries to be made in those sets. People are just now finding new, legit variations in 20-year old product (likely because of the ridiculous amount produced/still out there). Plus, I keep track of what cards came from which printings, packaging types etc. So I get a lot of valuable research out it too.
Collecting Robin Ventura and Matt Luke.
You are my hero!!!
My personal favorite set to bust is 1990 Donruss. I love the errors in that set, and I remember how cool it was to pull them back in the day. The Nolan Ryan errors were the best, but the other variations are also very cool.
Also, I am obsessed with the early Pro Set stuff!
My favorite set is the 1989 football, I love the different colors on the borders. Probably the reason I also love the 1990 Donruss baseball, too (the red looks great, especially when the blue Rated Rookie logo is on it).
And all the Pro Set variations make opening a junk wax box even more fun. Of course in my opinion, there is no such thing as junk wax.
Just high-end wax, and low-end wax...

The strangest thing I've ever found in a Pro Set box: A 1 1/2" x 3/4" slip of paper that said: "Cut by: (pen signature) Shift: 2."
Collecting Robin Ventura and Matt Luke.
The pink Packers cards are new to me though.
I guess the paper slip was a quality control thing. I've gotten some of those in some miniatures gaming boxes, but never in a card box.
Right now I am working on a raw 1990 Fleer football master set and a 1989 Pro Set football master set!!!

Besides: the Joe Montana, Eagles 82-84 numbering errors, AFC placement variations and the Kevin Butler variations, are there any more errors/variations in the 1990 Fleer set?

Don't leave us hanging- who was it cut by?
I just opened 2 1990 Fleer boxes a couple weeks ago, but now I can't remember if I pulled error Montana or corrected Montana.
I think it was error Montana, and the Eagles errors as well.
I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to the variations, I was just trying to pull some nice silver All-Pros, of course a couple were in bad shape.
Those cards are great looking when they are perfect (the All-Pros I mean), but they are very condition-sensitive, and highly underrated in my opinion, and I'm on the hunt for more really nice versions of those.
Also, I was looking for more Andre Ware and Jeff George draft picks.
I am on a NCAA quarterback project kick, which I may start another thread on once I've organized my thoughts on it!!!
Basically, I am looking to do something with all the great college QB's of my generation, mainly 1989 through the present (ie Andre Ware, David Klingler, Ty Detmer, Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke, Jason White, and of course Colt McCoy, Tommy Frazier!!! and Daunte Culpepper (I went to UCF!), and the great Hawaii QB's Chang and Brennan, for example).
It should be fun, because some cards will be hard to come by for some of the guys who were injured before making to the NFL...

Oh and Mark May, Jim Covert and Jim Lachey all come with or without a black line under their bio info. If you want to build a master set, your best bet is to buy at least 1 jumbo and 1 wax or rack box since they used two different printers and one went into jumbo packs and another into wax/racks.

Looks like I have a ways to go to catch up to some of you folks, but not sure I can stomach any more of these fleers...especially with no great hit cards to offset the cost. I refuse to harbor thousands of worthless fleer - lord knows I have enough at my parents to dispose of.

Any luck with the vintage buybacks?
How many Comstock's have you pulled over the years?

Thanks! I was in the middle of a post the other day that detailed what the "little-known" gems in each of the junk year products were but it ended taking a really long time so I just canned it. Maybe another day!

PLEASE DO!
Edit: And if it's taking a long time, just do baseball!
