So over the past few years what in your opinion cost the TPG's more.....
Part 1.
AT and or Over Graded Coins........or Milk Spots on ASE's.....or all of the above ?
Part 2.
And should the submitter of a particular coin that falls into a "Non Profitable Catagory" suffer and pay the bills for the other coins that are on the market by getting the
big (G) on there slab ?...just thinking out loud...

Then add to that a slew of slab design changes, company moves, and new ownerships.

They shouldn't grade coins that were dipped (or cleaned in any other manner) or coins with putty (or any other repair). However, those coins would have "failed" inside or outside a slab, so that's more of a quality control issue.
I think the "perception" of over grading the coins they slab would have the greatest effect on their reputation. PCGS and NGC may, at different points in their histories, present the same grade on the same coin, but the perception is PCGS is tighter. That perception makes PCGS slabs more valuable.
IMO, the ONLY way a TPG could regain or improve their reputation would be to... recall EVERY coin they've slabbed, insert them into a NEW style inert archival slab and give them the correct grade in their new slab. The majority would receive the same grade, but there would also be a lot of happy dealers/collectors receiving higher grades and a lot of unhappy dealers/collectors receiving lower grades. It's not going to happen... but boy, what a marketing coup that would provide that TPG.
May not have had all those milk spots, reds becoming brown, and even the putty that got by may of stayed stable them.
