I say yes, but in todays environment - too many marks across the lower left hand lines
  • Options
It may just be the picture, but the left side upper line kinda fades out and has that round hit. My guess is no.image

PCGS maybe. Depends on how they look at the breaks in the lower left lines.

NGC no. Upper lines won't pass muster.

Yes, that is not a hit, it is a flaw in the planchet.

OK, the other "divot" to the right of that one appeared to be a flaw.

This is a maybe then, far from "lock" but maybe at PCGS. Don't even think about sending this one to NGC.

No. I would not consider that a FBL Franklin.

Funny you should mention this since there is also a thread asking id there are different "grading standards" between to different TPG's and this is one where they definitely differ!

    My vote is YES!

Herein lies the problem with Frankies.

The collectors of this series put a really high premium on coins showing FBL's.
Problem is........there is no real consensus on what the heck FBL's are.

Show this coin to ten "experts" and tab the results, then show this coin to ten
good old regular Frankie collectors and tab the results, then show this coin to
ten coin collectors who don't really follow Frankies and tab the results.

It would be interesting to see the results of that test.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

If "yes" is the true answer, I have no idea what full bell lines are. My first thought was not even close.

I'm not so sure I'd agree with you JR. Some collectors could give a rats ass about FBL, some do put a premium on FBL's, and some collectors do put a premium on well struck Frankies. The last 2 are NOT synonymous. I have seen a fair amount of FBL Frankies that have strike issues on other parts of the planchet. As to dollar premiums associated with FBL, well, that really popped up once the TPG's starting making the designation... before then (aside from really rare ones like a '53-S) the premium tended to be not too bad for FBL's.

since i prefer NGC's way of doing things.. i say no. PCGS's way of doing
things is too watered down for my tastes and i do not really consider
    it correct.

Tuff picture to tell from but I got to say NO

I'd say yes. I've seen much less in FBL holders.

No way.... look at that big crack in the coin... JUST KIDDING. I think it could have a chance so count me as a "maybe" image

Looks like it could go 65 too. It behooves you to send it to pcgs, and more than once, if you don't get it the 1st time around.

No its weak in the left corner bottom line and not just in one place look closely at the lower bell line.

If that hits a 65 I am sending in 10 raw 62 Frankies on Monday.

Since I have been on this forum I have never stated that I knew for certain a grade for one of my or any body elses coin, because I suck at grading, well I have looked at a lot of franklins in the past year, raw and pcgs graded, I can't say for sure if they will give this coin FBL (the fist time around image)

But I'd bet the dog ( no pun intended) and the ranch it's a 65 all day long.........image
