Is there a non-superstar or common player that you collect???

I loved looking at the Phil Garner collection in another thread and was inspired to ask this question to the forum. Whose cards do you hold near and dear to your heart that maybe someone might even ask.....Who is that guy?????? image

I'm mainly a Dodgers collector, but I'm slowly working on a Steve Garvey collection......His cards should be cheaper because he didn't even sniff the Hall Of Fame. image

I remember as he was leaving the game, it almost seemed that his election to the hall was a formality (at least here in SD). Then never got close.

Chas. Ferguson. The 19th century version of "he who could have been...", had not typhoid fever taken him shortly before his 25th birthday.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • When Cecil Fielder was playing I constantly bought lots of a 100 or more, it added up to around 3500 totally worthless cards.

No, I played football at James Madison University in VA during the same time period. He was the receiver who stripped the ball away from an Iowa LB after an interception to preserve the win. Every year he becomes famous during the week of the Iowa-Iowa St. game. We both work and live in Southern California now.

Mark Carrier (the safety). Underrated player, underrated coach.
  • tunahead08tunahead08 Posts: 1,063 ✭✭✭
Andy Van Slyke and Bert Blyleven in baseball, David Backes, Steve Wagner, Grant Stevenson, and Ryan Carter for hockey (plus any other former Minnesota State University - Mankato hockey players).
  • I collect Ozzie Smith who seems to not get much hobby respect outside of St Louis.

I have thought about collecting Clint Barmes but for some reason officially collecting a current player makes me cringe. Too many expensive variations etc even for a non-collected player. I do however pick up Chris Carpenter cards when I see something I like.

In football I collect Champ Bailey rookie cards and his eTopps cards (I have over 50% of the print run of his eTopps card!).
    White Whales:
1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold Ozzie Smith
2006 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Chris Carpenter
