Ebay sellers..

Why do you put coins on the flea with a BIN or BO and decline a fair and reasonable offer?

lets take a common grade coin- say a 53-D Frankie in a 65 FBL- you say you want $90.00 or BO...ok- the coin at high PCGS retail is at best 60 bucks and you get an offer of 49.00 which is about in line for this grade on a level playing feild- but yet you decline the offer..

Are you selling it or just advertising that you have a mediocre cojn for sale and want way over top dollar for it...

enlighten us oh you savvy sellers,.....

They probably don't think 55% of their asking price is reasonable. I don't sell coins, but I'm just thinking out loud. If $49 is the going price there should be one somewhere on fleabay for about that price.

I decline some borderline fair offers because I'd end up paying eBay and Paypal about 10% and the net amount I'd receive would not constitute a fair price.

I like the sellers that BIN for all most twice an all around fair price and they have the make an offer
and you offer top money but still below the shown price. They refuse and call you a scavenger
for wasting their time. Then you look around and find the same coin for less than you offer. There
are many dealers on eBay that will start ther price or offer at a low price and still take offers. I am
a scavenger I guess but I call it shopping around.

Sellers are no more obligated to price their coins at levels buyers think are reasonable than buyers are obligated to purchase coins at levels sellers think are reasonable. image

To answer your question with another question- why do buyers offer 10% of the asking price of a coin listed at half current catalog value? I'm sure I don't know.

Really! Seller has a BIN of $975 for an '18-D Lincoln...65RB. Also has a BO.

Looks like a nice coin, decent price, so I offer $925. Automatic decline. Okay, how's $945? Automatic decline. Never mind...I don't want to work this hard.

C'mon, if you are offered 97% of your BIN you'd think that BO would at least be considered.

when you sell on eBay they take a huge cut

do you think the guy got the item for $30?

they probably have selling price at cost + eBay/PAYPAL + profit

It's always possible that the auto-decline was incorrectly set. I suppose you could ask the seller if you're really interested in the coin.

The seller bought the coin over PCGS retail because he was told to always pay up for great looking coins. He bought and wants a small profit, after all he was smart to pay up for the coin and you should be smart and give him a profit. So he lists for $90. To barge in and assume that he knows the real market price is $60 and $49 is a reasonable offer is, well making assumptions. image

Regardless of where the market is, what we think it is, what it should be, sellers will price based in their own personal logic. If someone asks $90 for a coin I'm willing to pay $49 for I won't waste a moment making and offer. We are too far apart. Some sellers are fishing, know the real value and would appreciate the realistic offer, but I'm betting most are not like that. They may know the real value but are looking for a sucker. They may have no clue at all.

Well I would almost agree with a few, but let us say for giggles that his asking is 75% above PCGS retail(and I made a mistake on the graded coin- it is a 64FBL) and his ask price is that of a 6FBL with a BO, you offer him 1 dollar under a 64FBL of the PCGS and they sill decline your offer- what thew hell is a seller thinking in this market? Since FBL's are not a major market item on the grey- what makes you (seller) think that you should get a full retail + 75% mark up? What the hell are you )seller) smoking, cuz I want a whole doobie of it!

Be reasonable- and don't hand me a line of bull chit that you paid more for it than what you have it listed for- or else you would be pricing it at what you paid for it in the first palce.

eat your ebay fee and make no money in the long run- let it collect dust and rot in hell...

Where are you getting $60 from since the price guide lists it at $150? The seller probably feels that $90 is a reasonable BIN and if so, the $49 offer is simply objectionable.

Lee- see my post just above this one I screwed up on the grade, and you would be absolutely right if it was a 5fbl- I would not be a bit surprised if I was rejected on a low ball offer of $49 for a 120-150 coin.

and I do understand that if you are selling and trying to squeek out a profit of some sort then why put it on the flea? It used to be a place where you could make a few bucks on items sold, but that mentality went by the wayside with the advent of the POWERSELLER and all the hype that went with it as a business now.

Sadly our own BS&T is not as diverse as the bay ( some folks sell the same thing to much) not much variety, and I'm not thrilled about a 10-15% juice to the auction houses either.

but I think I have a good deal goin on a few WLH's and Frankies that I need, we shall see, haven't heard back yet.

I got sic fiddy in my prayonyoupal account...

For whatever reason, some don't have full knowledge of 'going rates' (or just don't bother to research it). I figure if the offer is less than 65-70% of asking price, I just don't bother making it. If the item that special, I consider a price closer to their asking price, otherwise I'll move on. Just my thoughts.

It has nothing to do with what percentage of the BIN you ae offering. As a seller, I try to make a little money on each coin. So what would I pay for this coin? If they're selling for a full reatail at $60 then I would have to pay about 75% of that to buy the coin--$45. You offer me $49 so what do you think I clear after ebay an paypal fees: $41.05. Ebay/paypal fees on this coin are 16.22%, more than heritage.

I know you guys get tired of me biching about ebay fees but you buyers have to pay them. If you don't, we sellers will go find something else to do.

So If I were selling this coin, and I paid $45 for it, then $60 would clear me 51.01 which is borderline acceptable but you can bet I won't be offering free shipping at that price. --Jerry

eBay/paypal is a rip off to sellers, costing the buyer more $$$ too. They have become a way too greedy monopoly when it comes to fees on both ends demanding paypal only, hence I no longer deal with ebay buying or selling. Plus their anti 2nd amendment stance.

Anybody who thinks the buyer doesn't pay the fees had better think again. If the seller can't cover the fees, we'll go do something else. I have many ex-ebay customers who now contact me directly for a lower price. My profit is the same either way. --Jerry

I did. The BIN is $975, all offers below $950 are automatically rejected.

Now I'm not saying that the seller doesn't need this price, or even that it's a bad price. All I'm saying is a BIN of $975 and a bottom BO of $950 doesn't make much sense to me. It's probably marketing.

Funny, we're $5 apart but during the q&a delay I bought a new '14-D so now I can't afford it.
