Does the Mint ever cancel an item that you have on backorder?
Several months ago, I ordered a proof set, along with a set of the First Spouse bronze medals. I got the proof set, and if I recall correctly, the bronze medals were on backorder. I remember checking my account shortly thereafter and it was still listed as on backorder. Then last week, I checked again, and the backorder disappeared.
To my knowledge, I have not received the medals. I will check tomorrow with my second assistant to my underassistant assistant secretary at work to see if she remembers getting the package. She is usually pretty good with giving me my mail, though.
Does the Mint ever just cancel a backorder on you?

In which case what I would do is start with the 800# and call them and tell them to re-instate the order or place another order for you. Then, if that doesn't work, move to the real mint and let them know what happened.

I can't imagine they would cancel Mr. Longacre's order. One of us, yes, I could understand the Mint canceling our order. But, for the Mint to cancel your order, I find that very difficult to believe. If the Mint did so it must surely have been an unfortunate oversight. You should have your chief administrative assistant call Secretary Geithner immediately to clarify this matter.
BTW, buying Mint products, silver Pandas, common Washington .25¢ silvers, all of this has brought some much needed depth to your strategic egalitarian image cultivation program. I have to give you
