picked this off ebay a while back, what do you think ?
both scans are of the same coin, one is with a kodak (before it crapped out) and the other is with an HP scanner

    Yes, it's a counterfeit. Very well done too.
    Looks to be made from a copper or brass planchet, and as you say "plated with silver"

    congrats to stone ! i will add, this coin is not a modern chinese knock off, this is an item that was made to pass as money, when seated dimes were in circulation ! sold by a dealer as a genuine coin.

    The obverse and reverse do look like they could come from two different coins!

    Some here try to trick others with odd photo's image. I don't know who would do such a thing image.

    I've heard of this happening in seated dimes before. I inherited some of my grandfather's coins over 40 years ago, and one of them was a brassy looking and very worn 1872-CC dime. It was counterfeit, but also had taken in a lot of people since it had been so well circulated.
