Is this a PayPal scam??

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
I received the following message via my e-mail and wondered if it's anything others may have received or recognize? What I did was open another window and logged-in to my PayPal account which was of course normal and I wasn't "provided with steps to restore your account access" or anything else. I thought I should warn everyone to be careful and to never log-in to your account off of an e-mail such as this.

Thanks.

Al H.

I got one of those once too.

I logged into my PayPal account on another computer (just because i'm extra paranoid and have other computers handy).

    Nothing amiss with my account.

    Isn't that special?

    The rule which bears repeating:

NEVER click on ANY LINK in an email. NEVER.

Keets did exactly the right thing.

Big-time scam - you did right by opening another window to PayPal, NOT clicking a link. Never ever click those links! We get about 20 of those a week in our emails - you can either just delete them, or forward them to spoof@paypal.com. If it's from eBay, spoof@ebay.com. Supposedly they investigate them.
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

wow, they used spell check and had terrific sentence structure.

so it ranks above a 1, our lowest score, one the phishing rating.

Unfortunately, due to its repetitiveness and a couple of poorly worded sentences, it only grades a 2, as it is still obviously a bs'ing phishing scam.

    keep trying!

    Agreed

I used to have a Paypal account back in 1998-2001 but long after I closed my account, I still receiving email with "fake" Paypal link asking me to login and identify myself because unauthorized users were trying to access my account. Why and how someone could try to access the account which was no longer there, what a joke. image

I got one yesterday. It had my name in it which made it look even more real. I sent it to spoof@paypal.com but haven't heard back yet.

NEVER copy a URL from an email to login either.

Got the same email yesterday. I don't open any of these and forward them to spoof@paypal.com then delete.

All anyone ever needs to do when they get ebay or PP 'emails'
is to simply log into the appropriate account and if the 'email' is legit
the same email will be there.

    Good for you.

Windows mail is sending most of mine right to the junk mail folder. I get several a week but they are slowing down, probably because so many of the mail programs are filtering them out that they aren't working anymore. --Jerry

Scam. Any email from PayPal always includes your name. Easy way to know the real thing.

#1 Rule... Unless the message from Paypal has your name spelled exactly correct in the heading of the message, it's a scam.

And I get these all the time... SCAM!
