I haven't had a single piece of mail all week...and I'm expecting a good bit.

I have a new mail carrier though...I hope I don't have an issue.

    Very nice pickups though John.

Thank you sir...if I could only find the solid gold copy now...I said "copy" because it's singular...there are no copies.

Nothing too spectacular, but this came today...puts me a bit closer to finishing off the wooden cards.

It's been awhile since this thread has had a bump. Aren't too many Thomas folks around here, so I'll share a few "hard to find" items that I've picked up here and there.

    --------------

First of all, I found a rookie season publication I didn't know existed. Pretty excited to add this to my RC year stash...

    --------------

Next, I got lucky and happen to spot the following card in a stash of junk cards on eBay...

    image

By all accounts these were promotional items at a Chicago card show. Franklin Execs got up in arms about their logo being so prominently displayed on the card and not receiving kick backs for it. DonrussLeaf pulled the promos and airbrushed the card for the actual release. This card helped lead to the decision that any company who had an agreement with Major League Baseball could be inadvertantly displayed or advertised for on the items produced by other companies licensed by the MLB.

    ---------------

Another hard to find promo item:

    image

Not much difference to the released card other than the size and placement of the facsimile signature and cropping of the picture on the front and back.

    -----------------

Kind of cool. I didn't know there was a 1995 You Crash the Game promo set given away for the All-Star game. Anyway, any player to hit a HR during the game was a "winner" card. Frank and I believe Piazza were the only winners and could be redeemed for an 8 card set similar to the pack inserted winner redemption set. The redemption card is much harder to find and I stumbled across it.

    ---------------

I've picked up a lot of harder to find inserts as well, but these are the things that are probably entertaining to even those people who aren't into modern or Frank Thomas.

Thanks! I was stoked when I saw it. It wasn't even the main image, I just happened to open the listing and scroll through the pictures and see this:

Here are a few tougher inserts I've gotten lately:

1997 Bowman's Best Mirror Image, Inverted and Inverted Refractor...just need the Inverted Atomic Refractor to finish off the 6 card rainbow.

Nice cards! I love that power alley, Leaf promo and of course the crash the game cards.
I would think that Frank made a publication sooner then that? I remember him being the hottest
player on the planet for a couple months that summer. Next year went to Yankee Stadium just to
    see him play.

Well, he was just called up in August of 1990 and this magazine was the Nov/Dec 1990 edition, so it probably came out in October. Now, by the fall of 1991 and spring of 1992, he started appearing on a lot of covers. In the fall of 1990, he was just starting to get recognized I think. He wasn't even a top 20 prospect in the summer of 1990.

Funny I remember having his Leaf rookie probably around Sept. and it was if I remember
about 20 bucks and the hottest card going. I'm surprised he wasn't considered a top 20 player
    at that point.
Baseball and Hockey cards where such a big part of my life back then. Miss the
    good old days.
