So he goes from having a nice asset to having liabilities..

An asset that appreciates in value vs a liability that appreciates in cost...That seems fair to me.

I have no clue what I'm going to do with it. I love it - I especially love 57's - but if I had any sense I'd sell it and find a nice 8 or 8.5 for my collection. Mr. Spence lives in my area, maybe I should ask him. image

That is an absolutely STUNNING Card!!

That would be a hard one to get rid of.

  • << <i>So he goes from having a nice asset to having liabilities.. >>

Two of my dogs are well trained golden retrievers that eat trespassers.

BTW, forgot to mention that the card in question is absolutely gorgeous. I agree you should try to sell it to Mr. Spence or send it to a non-eBay auction and buy a nicely centered PSA 8.

This card is a great example of why I think vintage cardboard is still relatively undervalued. This is a piece of baseball Americana - American history, essentially - that is 52 years old and has been preserved in near pristine form. If you were to go back to 1957 and say that this piece of flimsy cardboard would've been preserved in this condition all this time, you probably would've laughed and said that most of those cards wouldn't make it to 1959, let alone 2009. This is a huge reason why I collect (and why non-collectors can't understand the magic of the hobby) - to find something this nice, preserved after all this time, has a "cool" factor to it that can't be replicated in most other hobbies.

My mouth dropped to the floor when I saw that card. What a beauty!

It is a battle between heart and logic - keep the card this gorgeous or sell it, get an 8 and pocket the difference.

    Tough choice...

    Who hijaked Corvette's id?

    image

I won't be posting my 1040 numbers so we will never know. However, used car salesmen and lawyers have a lot in common... #1 and 2 for least trusted people!? I can't remember who is winning that race these days.

Regardless of that my card buying budget is extremely small. Not sure my wife would be too happy if I dropped four or five grand on a card.

I wonder what kind of demand a sports card bank would garner? $500/Down, buy here, pay here, lol. Might be hell when you gotta go repossess a '63 Mantle PSA 8 when they've alreay paid $1200 on it and still owe over $1000.
  • Great card. Anybody else wish Topps didn't use those colors on the letters on the front ?
I would have preferred dark ink instead.
