  • Good Day,
Well it looks like the Seller at least tried, hard card case and padded envelope...Amazing how the PO in this case (And no indictment of the Post Office, Love them) managed to still destroy the card. It happens, although thankfully only about once every year or two for me.

Seller did ship that card correctly IMO, given the value of that card. Even if it were between 2 pieces of cardboard it probably would have bent the same.
  • 1966CUDA1966CUDA Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭✭
Yeah..it was shipped properly in my opinion too. Just too bad it got caught in the sorting machine?? at the post office. I ship singles the same way, and a picece or cardboard probably wouldn't have saved this one.

Actually That part is not true about the machine. All of my cards are shipped the same, except between two pieces of cardbaord and are marked "Do Not Bend, Fold, Or Crush" with a pre-made stamp, all over the front and back of the Padded envelope. The only thing this does is cost me a little more, because it tells the Post Office it is a Non Standard Padded envelope and makes it a Non Machineable piece of mail. It takes the bottom tier cost of about .93 cents go to about $1.33 I think. But in the last 5 years have never had a package machine Postmarked like this one. 100% period, have not been damaged out of about 6000 sent.

A little Windex will take care of that. Or not. That sucks - sorry.

That really sucks. It looks like the mailman tried to fold the envelope when he put it in the mailbox. I think you might be s.o.l. on this one. I would ask the seller for a refund and see what he says.

Per eBay/PayPal policy it's up to the seller to get the goods to you in the condition listed. I think you would have grounds for a claim and if they didn't purchase insurance, they would be out of luck.

I thought the Post Office made a policy change where it wasn't sufficient to stamp or write "Do Not Bend" on a package/envelope anymore. Anyone know for sure?

  • Looks like Fisk was okay, though.

    Sorry, that's a real bummer.

I hope that there was insurance, then it's the post office that would have to pay its worth.....right?

No way. The post office tries to run those through sorting machines. Jeez, no wonder why they're wanting to shut down some offices here in OK. They always want a raise though. But who doesn't. Another fine reason why I pay all of my bills in person or online.

I just make my packages thick enough that they won't go through the sorting machine.
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,951 ✭✭✭✭
That scares the crap out of me! This is why I insure any card I sell over $40. I primarily use 4x7 (000) padded mailers when I ship raw or graded cards. I don't like those larger 6x9 mailers. Can't tell, is that a 4x7 mailer in the photo? Man that would suck... thank you for sharing!

Yes. Just writing or stamping "do not bend" isn't enough. There has to be some kind of a reinforcement with the do not bend. If it has the reinforcement I have to carry it as a parcel (not sorted in the sort case). Some idiots still bend them but most of us do not.

As well as doing this, I have asked the Post Office (In fact I have clarified with 3 different Post Offices) that by paying the Higher Parcel Post cost along with the No Bend, Fold or Crush that this makes it a Non Machinable Parcel Post.
As I said 6000 or more sent without a single mangle, so it must be working.

I usually use a piece of cardboard on each side, I haven't heard of any damage since I started doing that about 4 years ago.

Claude should file a SNAD, it's not in the condition he bought it in. The seller is responsible to make sure it's packaged properly, and USPS would have denied coverage on the fisk card for improper packaging.

  • i dont see: NON MACHINABLE, or DO NOT BEND on the bubble mailer.

I don't use any normal packaging. I recycle. I save the plastic grocery bags I get. I save the cardboard I get when I buy anything. I save the padded envelopes people ship stuff to me in. Then when I send a card out I put it in a holder (or in PSA cards case, already in a holder), wrap it up in two or three of those bags, then put a couple pieces of cardboard around it and tape it all up. It is an ugly package, but I've never had anyone say they got anything damaged from me.

The ruined item was poorly packaged.

Sellers that think they are saving money by skimping
on materials/labor should expect PayPal to set them
    straight.

I don't think the card was packaged properly. The difference between first class and first class parcel post is less than 50 cents and you avoid this problem all together. He should have use a piece of cardboard as well.

I am tempted to blame the free shipping push, but each seller is responsible for managing their business.

I use those plastic grocery bags too. They also help to make the package thick enough for DC. The make great trash can liners for the can at my desk too image

Really? You guys think the seller used proper care?

A lil bubble wrap around that case would have helped.

Simply sending a card in a top loader in a bubble mailer is not sufficent
to get the PO to pay off on an insurance claim.

Sorry this happened but the sender is at fault here.

edited to add: I only read page 1 when I made my repy.

I see that some people on page two agree that the item was packed poorly.

    Good for you.

Yes file the claim now. This happened to me on a $150 card and I filed 25 days after I received the card because I forgot about the package.

I had scans and all of the packaging, but Paypal found against me.

Got any more details you can share?

Under the current scheme, it is almost impossible for
a buyer to lose such a claim.

    ............

Several years ago, there was an interesting defense that
    sometimes worked.

"I offered the buyer insurance in the listing and in the
invoice, but the buyer declined the insurance."

    That one no longer flies.

Wow...check out the link to the card I bought and compare to the photos I took of the damaged card...hmmmmm... centering on the card I received is a little o/c compared to the auction card!!!!

  • Hmm. Yes. It does look a little bit different centered-wise.

Do you have a link to the auction?
  • storm888storm888 Posts: 11,701 ✭✭✭
Dirtbag seller. (Unless, he said in the listing that buyers
    would receive a "similar" card.)

Even the PayPal monkeys can see that the broken card
in NOT the card in the listing.

File at PayPal and NEG the guy.

  • If that's the auction pic and the other is the card the seller sent, it was a switch....

    Just filed SNAD thru paypal.

    Storm,

I bought a 2001 SPX Teixeira in the spring. I got busy and didn't open it until almost 4 weeks after I received it. The cards in manila envelope (not bubble) in a hard plastic holder. When I opened the card, the case was cracked like the card was flexed in the sorter. The card had an indent along the crack.

I sent the pics to Paypal and they denied the claim. I appealed it by calling them and Paypal denied the claim again. They never gave me a reason. So I just sold it on ebay and ate the loss. I negged the buyer.

    << <i>link-a-roo >>

Not only did he pull a switch-a-roo but the card for auction isn't NM. All 4 corners look rounded, especially the top left.

Get the refund and DO NOT allow an exchange.
