If I had money burning a hole in my pocket I would look to vintage cards not a Jordan card like that. Simply stupid in my opinion.
Fools and their money....
Exactly! How can someone even bid on a card like that with a totally crappy scan?
Always buying perfect 1986 Fleer Basketball PSA 10 cards and 1982 OPC Nolan Ryan cards. Thank you.

For me this would ring true if I were buying an 8 or a 9, but a 10 going for that kind of coin, I would not bid that high without a better scan or picture.

I assume this is not an investment move but a registry move; i.e. who has the biggest d@#$.
No guarantee of that happening and I doubt the buyer would crack it.
For all those saying that it is foolish to spend that type of coin on a card (me included)
I'd be the first to accept that jack if I was the seller of such a card.

Maybe the pic is intentionally blurry
<< <i>How is this card worth so much, when a psa 10 book value is only 5,400? >>
Gem Mint for BGS is 9.5, not a 10. PSA does not have a pristine grading system. Matter of fact, one of these Jordan BGS pristine 10's was once in a PSA 10 holder and the owner cracked it and sent to BGS and get a perfect 10, which is not Gem Mint, its a pristine 10.
A BGS "pristine" 10 will definetly cross to a PSA 10, but a PSA will not always cross to a BGS 10, it was just luck for that one seller. Not sure if this is the card of the story I heard some time ago. If there was a "pristine" grade for PSA, it would probably be PSA 11 or PSA 10.5
Hey, PSA came out with the .5 scale, so who knows, maybe they'll come out with the "Pristine" grading option one of these days??? That would be cool actually!
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.

If the MJ is auto rc then maybe ... otherwise Mantle all day

Seems like such a no brainer to me.

I would rather have an ungraded 1952 Mantle Autographed Patch serial numbered to 100!
<< <i>Other than that, wow! I do think 60k is a bit high, but don't see any problem with BGS 10 getting a big premium over where PSA 10's trade.
But for cards like the one we're discussing that are considered the "best of the best" examples of the best athlete of a generation, how do you go wrong buying this card as a long-term investment? >>
As far as long term potential, I'd bet it follows the same path as the SI Tiger previously mentioned.
Someone will end up paying $100K for a $10K card and that is fine but
for me, I'd rather have a PSA 10 in my collection - less likely to be trimmed.

Well if this card is trimmed it was trimmed when PSA graded it too... The card in question was bought at a show and taken directly to Beckett for a crossover it was not cracked and sent in raw..
Also this card sold for 150 grand the first time it was sold.. it was a pop 1 at the time now it's a pop 2 the sencond pristine was a SGC 98 crossover..
Beckett has graded over 23,000 1986 fleer cards and there's a 8 or 9 pristines so they are not just handing out 10's like some may suggest....
Would I pay that much for this card? Nope... But the person who does has alot more money than me and probally has no problem spending big money on alot of stuff that I wouldn't.. from food to the kind of wine they drink or the clothes on their back...
It's about as "foolish" as someone paying over 2 grand for a 1986 topps Nolan Ryan PSA 10..

I dunno, is it? I never saw Mantle play. They are both iconic cards, that dont go down much.
My friends would be much more impressed with the Jordan.

I would take the Mantle and would not even hesitate on that choice. Of course I am in my 40's and the Mantle was always THE card. I just don't see this Jordan card ever getting like that. Most of us weren't alive when Honus Wagner played and it still gets big money. Plus there are so many unopened boxes out there.
Nice cash in for the seller but I feel really bad for that buyer because most of the hype on that card is from a magazine cover and it will be old news in a few weeks or so.
<< <i>I feel really bad for the guy who is paying 60+ for that card. Think about it this way, a 9 is really not THAT much worse condition and sells for about 59,500 cheaper than that Pristine 10. It's rediculous how much someone will pay for 1 grade higher.

The card was graded a couple years ago, The "magazine cover" is a couple years old as well..

Absolutely is for me John, but that's certainly just my opinion. I'd much rather have the Mantle that doesn't have too many counterparts sitting out there in unopened 1986 Fleer boxes. I realize the rarity of a Pristine copy, but I still would imagine with all the unopened material around, there has to be a few more waiting to be submitted. Sure that's true of the Mantle too, but that card has stood the test of time.
Plus I'd much rather own an iconic baseball card than an iconic basketball card, just because I'm much more of a baseball fan. Personal bias.
Plus I don't care what my friends think.
It may seem foolish to many here but it may not seem so foolish to that person.

No doubt. Plus think how many people think WE are foolish for spending what we do spend on graded pieces of cardboard! The buyer of this card is just more foolish!

People pay 300k for new cars that probably dont ride any better than some of the 20k ones, but who is the lady leaving the nightclub with? Exactly, the guy with the biggest ^%#%#%$%!!!!
If ya go to the sale - there's an alternate scan. Still poor - in fact it appears that this isn't even a unanimous 10 - the surface is a 9.5?
I rarely, if ever, comment on this kind of stuff - I mean - everyone has a right to do what they want with their money...
But - WOW!
Something comes to mind - perhaps this person has more money than brains?

lol: I am going to have to disagree with this one. I am pretty sure that 99% of girls out there have never been seduced because of a baseball card collection. I am also pretty sure that most of us, including myself, would probably initially hide the fact that I am an avid card collector when picking up a chick at the bar/club.
<< <i>And to think, there will be 4 more BGS 10's once the sheets up for sale in Legendary's auction get done... >>
Maybe but there's a crapload of these sheets out there.. I'ver personally seen quite a few and there is only 2 BGS 10's available of this card. out of the 24,000 cards graded from this set there is only 8 pristines total..
I guess people aren't cutting their sheets right?
If you think modern sheet cuts don't get into PSA or SGC slabs you're fooling yourself.. many people have been succesful doing so as well as some older stuff too
