Anyone need a job??? Please read!!

I have been reading a lot of threads on this site lately and have seen many people without jobs. The economy is stuff right now and I own a financial services company. Believe it or not our business, well let's just say that we are in the perfect storm in my industry. We specialize in retirement planning with folks approaching retirement or on retirement. Our client's are mostly between 50 and 80 years old. Because of the economy we are busier than ever. We have a office in Charelston SC, Roseville CA, Laurens SC, and Dunwoody Atlanta currently with several more opening over the next several months. I do not guarantee anything, but if anyone lives in these areas please let me know and I am more than willing to see if we have a opportunity for you.

I wish everyone luck in they're search for a job, a career, or a lifestyle. My family will keep you in our prayers to find a good paying position.

I also want to add this community of collector's has really opened my eyes even more to how many great people are in this world.. Thanks for all that you do for anyone and everyone. That's what truly living is all about!

Some quick advice for anyone who is unemployed...make "finding a job" your full time job...yes that's right...8 hours a day, 40 hours a week or more of lining up interviews, taking interviews, and doing all the other necessary legwork including reading and learning about all the opportunities out there. Make it happen.

This is so true, great advice!! I remember when I was looking for work when I graduated college and then when I quit my first job because my boss was an a-hole. Then I realized I hated what I was doing and changed my profession entirely. The whole job searching process is one of the most stressful situations one can undergo.

Thats great advice. Despite the economy and all of the layoffs, believe it or not, companies are hiring.

Very nice gesture Michael! Good luck to all those still in search of a job! Obviously in tough times, any job is a good job, but personally, I have always found that the best jobs are the ones that find you! Don't just work for a paycheck, but find a job that you love and you'll never regret it!

looks like I posted on the wrong thread.. so i will post it again on this one

up until about a month ago.. I was a credit underwriter or "buyer" for a sub prime auto finance company.
I have 11 years experience. I was let go due to continued downsizing.
I was hoping to try to maybe get into mtg underwriting but do not have the experience that they all
seem to want.. and I guess credit experience is not enough.

I live in chicago.. but am not opposed to relocating if I have to..
I am also not opposed to switching careers but everything seems to be a commission based job

Great advice Steve. I wish I could have dedicated that much time a week but in my profession I was limited to calling what TV or Movie productions were in production during my time out of work.

I wish everyone the best of luck on your search for employment.

Wow.... this has come full circle on me. My company let us know that I was going to be part of a "reduction in force" and my job will be abolished as of 10/2. I get paid until then but don't have to go to work if I don't want to. Stupid me, I'm going to go in for at least a couple of weeks as I want to finish a couple of projects I have started. I really thought this is where I wanted to retire.... and will still love to come back some day if the situation presents itself. I worked for the 3rd largest health insurance company in the U.S. and this is the first time they have had to do any type of layoff. I will never understand how I was one that was on the list and nobody can give me a straight answer, but I guess that is just corporate America. I will land on my feet and I hope everyone else who may be in the same boat does the same!

That stinks that you are being let go. The lists these company's come up with boggle my mind.

I changed jobs last fall when I got uncomfortable in the direction my previous employer was moving (Fortune 100 Oil Refiner based in PA) with lack of capital spending, an outside consultant evaluation, and a cut back on necessary work required to keep the company. This past March they layed off 20% of the salaried workforce and dissimated my previous department cutting manpower by half and demoting supervisors. My job was not cut, but guys were let go with seniority and better work ethic than many who were left. Sad to say but the cut lists usually come down to favorites and not necessarily performance.

I see signs of a turnaround in this economy. The new administration is doing its best to clean up the past 8 years of neglect, but it will not happen overnight. Companies will not hire overnight, as it will take a few good quarters of profits before taking on new payroll, so you may want to take something in the interim, but there are still jobs out there and if you have the right mix of skills and are willing to possibly relocate you can not only find work but even increase your salary.
  • It is amazing how things seem to work . I was at my last job for 15 years and next thing i know , I was outside looking in. It was frustrating because
it was a good place to work . It took me just over 5 months to find a decent job . I ended up working for Remington Arms. I know its not the greatest
job in the world but being in the gun making business it seems very busy with all the conflicts around the world. We have government contracts which
provides plenty of oppurtunities for overtime so i cant really complain too much.

As a machining specialist i walked in to a level 4 job , which is good . Do i wish i made more , of course , but in this economy , i took what i could get.

As one of those that struggled looking for work , i do sincerely hope those still looking will find something in the near future

Luckily for me I have always been self employed and the people I work for always have money.

My heart goes out to all those that are looking for work.

For the past few years I have given all the accounts to my son and between that and his teaching after school sports
he has done ok. I generally work for free for him like he did for me when he was growing up.

    Good for you.

I'm retired from the Army but my office that I opened when I retired never did well - had to do with timing, my somewhat poor strategy (wanting to do what I want) and what God has in store for me.

That said - overall - I'm very fortunate since I'm happy.

For those who've lost or losing their job?

I can't imagine how devastating that can be!

I wish all of you the best of luck in finding a new job - all I can do is offer my morale support.

    You guys deserve the best!

  • Jack, I would be willing to move to Southern CA to come work with you. I am not an attorney but I of course did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I argue alot with my 2nd ex-wife and have to defend my card purchases to my current loving wife. Not sure if this would be considered enough experience to possibly land a position as a defense attorney or a trial lawyer???

Very nice gesture. I live in Laurens SC and am currently unemployed for the first time in well over 20 years. I have no experience in the financial field or I would give you a call.
