Coin show in garage, looking for other locals to display a table

I am planning a garage sale at my place to sell some of my coins. looking for others to join in, maybe 2-4 tables. This will offer variety, protection in numbers, and good company. There are draw backs to this, your ideas, suggestions, and comments are welcome. If you are in the Portland Metro area and interested in joining, PM me.

I dunno about this. I don't live in Portland, but in my neighborhood, the garage sales usually bring out the "undesirables". And I really do live in a low-crime area. Do you really want people to know where your coins are?

If there's a local coin club they might have a sale that you can get a table at.
That would be safer, easier and get more customers.

Really a bad idea, especially now that you advertised it on a public forum. Anyone could contact you pretending to be another seller, and set the whole group up for a fall. It could be mild in the form of pro level pick pockets and petty thieves working as a group, or it could be the hammer, with guns and ski masks.

It would be much better to pay for a table at an existing coin show (share one if you can't afford a full table), that already has security issues solved, without advertising to the world where you live and where some valuable coins might be stolen.

Not only a Bad Idea but A VERY VERY BAD IDEA to have at your home.

There must be a flea market near you where you could set up for the

weekend or just one day. Even there you need to have someone with

you and for a little extra protection don't have your car parked at your

booth or better yet hide your license plate number.

You will probably have better results HERE.

If you are planning on selling in a garage sale format, I would assume you know you will not be getting a good price. People on the BST love deals.

And yes, I agree that it would not be a good idea as stated by everyone else.

Renting a table at a local flea market is your best bet for selling coins and it's far more safe.

tables at a swap meet or flea market are usually very cheap.....go that route my friend

I would have the sale with the door closed and only admit people by invention and people must show ID , fingerprinted and photographed.

I went to a garage sale and the guy had a newer issue of Coin Prices, so I asked him if he had coins for sale or collected coins.
He denide having any coins - ---- yeah Right ! Even subtal clues like this could be a BIG MISTAKE.

I was going to post the same advice but was going to suggest a neighbor's house that may be on vacation that way he wouldn't have to move the coins far

unless you are going to hire "blackwater" as security, I would not do this.

Hmmm...let's look at the odds in play...

Odds of someone on ebay culling addresses, and seeing more than a few auctions, of what someone has?
Odds of that same person, on ebay, seeing the layout of the house and neighborhood and doing some casing of the joint?
Odds of that same ebay person actually being in the area or living nearby?
Odds of that ebay person seeing the OP and sizing up age/health/opportunity?

Now, odds of someone who shows up at a yardsale seeing all the above and being around?

I prefer the ebay odds over one of local opportunity
