I noticed that all the scans of the Ozzies pulled so far, show a fisheye to the right of his helmet. Will this take away, or is this one of the few cards in the hobby where this is a normal "flaw"? I read an article not too long about some cards that aren't dinged for flaws b/c almost all issues had the same flaw. Is this one of them? Can't remember where I saw that article.

Just went back and looked at the ones pulled and see the fisheye on them. Also looked at the one I posted and it's not on mine (mine has black print dots). Also looked at about 2 dozen scans on eBay for the fisheye that these ones have and didn't see any in that exact spot. Plenty with print dots and fisheyes in various spots though.
You need to be very careful with BGS/BVG cards from the 70's in super high grade. They grade sheet cut cards and sheets from the late 70s/eary 80's are plentiful and easy to find.
I would NOT crack and sub it to PSA, but rather use their review function. Even if it comes back a PSA 9 its worth $80 to $120 depending on centering and who needs it at the time.
I personally would not buy a BVG/BGS 1979 Stargell in BGS 9-10 grade due to their admitting they grade sheet cut cards.

Thanks for the info but last time i checked my bvg Stargell gem mint is a pop 1. Its one of the few Beckett cards i own. I'm sure it would pass into a psa 10, but i have no plans on doing so because of all the eot stories iv'e been reading about over here. Just too scared to send them anymore submissions. I work hard for my money.

It would be crazy to crack it anyway. If you wanted to try a straight cross still in the holder, that would likely be worthwhile. A PSA 10 would likely sell for a lot more than a BGS 9.5 - even as a Pop 1.
Fellow rippers, I am trying to acquire the necessary skills to post some scans, but I thought I would update without anyway. The highlights of my box were an Ozzie that is centered as most of the scanned pulls were, two centered Stargells, though one has a blue smudge from the banner onto the border along the bottom, and Rice and Bench All-Stars that are solid as well. 36 others are centered well enough to be 9's or better, including two Fydrich's. If I nail down the scanning routine, I will post.

Nice. Definitely need to see scans of the Ozzie and the Stargells.
Here are the cards that will make my next sub... including the Ozzie, I have 13 strong cards. The Ozzie should be an 8, the Fisk won't be better than an 8 either, but worth the $4.50 IMO. The others should be solid 9's with a 10 here and there hopefully.
How many Ozzies can one expect from a sealed case?
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Assuming equal distribution of the 728 possible cards throughout the 12,000 card case, I would guess between 16-17. 2/3 of the vending boxes could have one assuming no doubles in any box - a big assumption based on the results so far.
WOW! It's Joe Simpson! And we all thought his claim to fame was his daughter Jessica!!!
STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
I did not have any creased cards, but I did have some with the light spider creasing. Also a few with mangled corners. Luckily most of the stars I pulled escaped that kind of damage leaving me with just centering issues.
<< <i>Just cracked mine, anyone else get a good number of creased cards?
>>
We actually got quite a few creased cards which I thought was odd. One was on a leaders card of Rice & Foster. This sucked as I thought this card was a gem. It was centered perfectly and no other flaws...then saw the dreaded crease. UGH
Cards have arrived in Seattle! Will post pictures later this evening. Box has a ding on one of the edges that has affected 30+ cards. I hope they are all off-center commons.
Collecting Topps, Philadelphia and Kellogg's from 1964-1989
Well I got my camera out, cracked open the box from Steve and was very excited to get into this 1979 vending box.
Oh well - this was the most complete bust of almost anything I have ever RIPPED. No star cards - none - I was very excited as I looked at the first 20-30 cards as the centering was really good. I was just pumped at the thought of the Ozzie under each card as I slipped through card after card, but alas nothing. The biggest name I got was Carlton Fisk. oh well................
Better luck to the rest of you - I have nothing to scan

LOW POP REPORT!!!
LOW POP NOTIFICATION!!!!
Dale Murphy, only 3 PSA 10s
A 10 would easily go for 300 on Ebay.
Good luck guys!
It's going to be a long afternoon at work.
Hopefully, I pull something worth scanning tonight.
I hope my greasy hands don't ruin any cards?
I must say though, it is the SWEETEST looking brick of cards
I've ever seen as a vending box!!
Maybe I'll get it graded?
HEEEELLLLL NOOOOOO!!!
Hopefully get to RIP it tonite

Here's my Ozzie... IMO it's a solid PSA 8....
...and just for thekid... here's a Carter sighting!
I'd guess a PSA 7 if I was lucky.... but "vending fresh!"
More scans later!

Lots of spidercreased cards too, actually got a card with a hole in it (weird)
But anyways, did pop an Ozzie
Jim Rice was the only real gradeable card
Did pull Ryan, Rose, Bench, Brett, Seaver, Yaz, Schmidt, Carew, Stargell
All too OC to pull 9's, not the strongest of vending boxes as far as condition
but that's the game
Away from the scanner but will post when I get to
O yeah, and a Pujols RC too

No spiders though, cards were packed waay to tight for even the smallest arachnid to crawl in there.
That Stargell with minor PD is still worth sub'ing IMO... and I'd say you have a NICE Ozzie there! Maybe an 8.5???
