...anybody seen this monster in-hand? It's hard to believe that it even exists. Wow.
Pic is from a Bowers and Merena ad in the current Numismatic News......coin to be auctioned at ANA this week:

What will something like this go for, do ya think?

They must occasionally run the coin press as carefully, slowly and deliberately as they can to come up with unmarked specimens.

I would not have guessed the grade at 69

Yes, well, a single photograph captures a single aspect of the coin, enhancing some *scratches* and hiding other defects.
I suspect if you had this coin in your hand and could wheel it around under a strong light, one would. *ahem* One ought to agree with the grade.

Also most (if not all) of those marks/scratches are on the slab.
There are a handful of PF69 examples around although the NGC population is much higher than the PCGS population.

I was wondering if they were planchet striations, scratches on the slab or scratches on the coin.
One would think on such a high dollar coin if it were scratches on the slab a person could pay the fee to have it reslabbed or use some plastic polish at the very least. Even if reholdered I doubt many would mistake this coin or any provenance associated with it.
Planchet striations are probably unlikely on a coin like this.
I'm assuming it isnt scratches on the coin, but then again you never know.
You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
Who is John Galt?
Actually proof Morgans were made using the medal press at the Philly mint, not the standard coin presses.
I've seen quite a few absolutely unbelievable proof Morgans including a couple of 1893's and 3 or 4 1898's along with a few other dates. PR68's and PR69's and DCAMS are actually more 'common' than one might think for large silver coins like these, apparently quite a few were made of exceptional quality and very well preserved all these years.
Wanna see some more killer proof Morgans.....look here
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
