What should I expect to pay for 1953 TOPPS PSA-7 Baseball Commons?

I am aware that it would depend upon the population, my questions is in relation to SMR? General ballpark #'s is what I am hoping to get as I am seeking to start this set and am trying to look down the road aways to see what it may cost to complete. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

No help at all, come on?

A subscription to www.vintagecardprices.com is something that I've found invaluable. It's $12.99 a month or less to find out about recent sales prices in all grades for individual vintage cards. I overpaid for several cards until I used this service. It's more than paid for itself. Sheesh, that sounds like some sort of paid testimonial. image

I'm down to 1 card for this set in straight PSA 7. My experience was that SMR was pretty accurate for this set with the few exceptions being low pop commons.

Good luck on this one. It's doable in PSA 7 without breaking the bank or trying your patience looking for the cards you need.

I just purchased a 71 card PSA-7 lot for $2,600.00 with about 12 high #'s. I thought that was a decent deal, it at least gives me a jump start on the set. Was I had?

36.00 seems a tad high per card. But not too high.

I just recently sold many 1953 Topps cards.

With that said, how was the centering?

IMO cards centered do very well while those OC don't.

Also, if you are happy with the deal what does it matter?

    Good for you.

my questions is in relation to SMR?

On average I was getting 75% of SMR.

However, it all depends on the player too. There are commons and there are commons.

    Did you get any SP's?

    Steve
    Good for you.

The "average" price for those 71 cards in PSA 7 totals = $2525.08
The "last recorded" price for those 71 cards in PSA 7 totals = $2627.65

The 12 high numbers, of which only 3 or 4 are SPs, bailed you out.

That is the information I was hoping to get, I have no idea how you find that stuff out but I really appreciate it. One last question and I will shut up, are there 4 or 5 commons that I should expect to pay premiums for in relative comparison to others in this set?

    Sincerely,

    Tom

I remember #9 being really tough and expensive as a common when I made my set. I think it was Joe Collins or perhaps that was another toughie to the set. Joe Nuxhall was expensive for me. I don't think I need to mention the last card in the set, but that always brings big dollars.

Good advice on by Steve (WinPitcher) to purchase the centered copies. Besides the resale, the eye appeal of a PSA 7 from this set is outstanding. Awesome color and design.

Congratulations on the buy, 1960 Topps guy. It appears as a buy into a truly classic set - wow, more than one quarter of the set in one fell swoop! As for the price that you paid, it seems roughly commensurate with an average market value, however I really don't know the market well for '53 graded commons. It's easy to see that the complete 274 card set in PSA Near Mint 7 SMRs for $29,000+. The artwork on this set is second to none. Maybe you can post some of your 71 cards here once you receive the beauties.

Here's one of my lowest grade '53s posted below. I think that it illustrates how the terrific art coupled with the smart design displays terrificly even in lesser condition. Happy Collecting. 1953 Topps is truly one of the nicest baseball sets ever conceived and implemented.

Three cards that I had to go really strong on were #154 Dick Groat (paid about $100 over SMR), #278 Willie Miranda (around a $600 - $800 common High SP card) and #280 Milt Bolling (same as Miranda or higher).
