First Spouse

Did anyone here purchase the Anna Harrison unc. gold coin? With a little over 2,440 coins sold, so far this looks like the key to the series, but its still along way from being over though.

Without a doubt. But quite likely it will be many years...if not decades...before these low mintage issues ever attract significant collector interest. Rarity is only part of the equation. For the coin to increase in value it has to have enough of a collector base to overwhelm available demand. I'm not sure we will ever get there while the program is ongoing.

And gold's gold. We have inflation coming, right?
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
<< <i>Yes, indeed.

of the spouses were not historically significant personae other than being married to the President.
<< <i>I don't see much collector demand even after the series ends. Besides the cost of collecting the entire set, most
of the spouses were not historically significant personae other than being married to the President. >>
I know how to add historical significance to these ladies. When they get to Jackie Kennedy, on the reverse they can reproduce the seen with her on the trunk of the car reaching for the secret service agent!

I'm collecting Proof and Unc. versions of the short set w/o First hags but rather Liberty depicted. These are just as scarce, but as a short set might appreciate much more. I have the first four and James Buchanan's Liberty is the last of this short set, due out next year. But I may buy the Eleanor Roosevelt too, just because.

Not only do they bring some form of change to dead presidents and States on coins, they do add some beauty to our coinage, while not on the circulating denoms.
Their mintages, and the fact that they are gold seem like true sleepers to me.
After I start buying for my N.O. set, Ill be going after a full set or two of these things.
Question, I dont follow modern coins that much anymore, and havent really followed these. Does the Mint strike these in both MS and PR?
Also, anyone want to post some pics?

Yes. These are available in both Unc. and Proof. I have no pics yet, but if you're patient I will image my short-set of non-hags and post 'em later.

"Ill buy these befoe any other modern coins minted within the last 40 years."
I collect these spouses as well, but you may want to look at some if not most of the Platinum coins. There are some great designs that surpass most US designs in the last 50 years.
<< <i>No matter what you think of Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama when those ladies become available interest will rise. I actually think Eleanor Roosevelt, and Jackie Kennedy will raise a lot of interest before then. >>
So far under current law there will NOT be a coin for either Clinton or Obama. A spouse coin is released for each presidential dollar coin that is released and those are only issued if a prez has been dead for a year or two. So if Bill dies before 2014 or so, he'll get a coin and so will Hillary (even if she is still living). So right now, the Carters don't get coins, but the Reagans do.
I've been collecting them so far, but havent bought any of the 2009s yet since the Mint changed their pricing policy on bullion... now their high premiums are even higher and they float w/ spot prices. Will wait until either bullion goes down or until I can find them on eBay at below Mint prices (if that's possible). Then again, I sometimes think I should just give the set up and sell them off too, just too expensive to keep up with and there's so many other cool coins I could be buying with that money!! Here's what I have so far:
