To the person who lightly recolored the tips of

the otherwise gorgeous, glossy, well-centered 1971 Topps Pete Rose and Carl Yastrzemski cards which i currently have in my possession and had hoped to send in for grading someday.........

someday........

i will find you and surprise you by knocking you out.

then, i will lightly baste you, the way you lightly applied the wrong shade of black to the tiny exposed white areas on the borders and corners of these otherwise amazing cards

then, i will cook you, the way i am feeling cooked right now, due to the anger i feel, not so much because these cards may have someday become quite valuable, but just because you damaged my hobby you SOB

then, after you have been baked to a crispy golden brown on the outside and a tender juicy meaty delicacy on the inside.......

.......i will forget to remove you from the oven and you will overcook, thereby retaining the same color as the baseball cards which you so unceremoniously altered forever and ever.

then, i will feed you to vultures. they, too are the same color as the baseball cards.

i hate you.

and in the words of our highly respected fellow poster, Neil the dutymon

"GOOD DAY" imageimageimageimage

list em on ebay as a bin.. not an auction..
and obviously note the issue.. would be nice raw cards for a set builder

I don't think I've ever done well buying raw 71's. I've got a few that were described as "NM or better" in my raw stash as well. It's like buying ungraded packs on ebay, you almost always take it in the seat.

with a nod to this here forum, let me reassure you all these were not purchased on eBay.....i would never do such a thing after reading some of the recent horror stories here.....the cards will stay with me, since they are of course two of my all-time faves and they were originally part of a large raw collection acquired long ago, i would not try to sell them or allow anyone who might have other ideas to even come close.

i just couldn't imagine why anyone would tamper with cards which already possessed such wonderful features and would guess that this happened when the appearance of a card was important only as it sat in your hand and not a PSA holder

at least i have a nice McCovey and Sutton to send in from that year. image

That sux so bad Jeff. The 71 Rose card for some reason is my favorite baseball card. I currently do not have one, but back in 2002 I bought one from a board member here(I can't remember my old account name) that was a psa 8. I would venture to guess that it is the finest 8 out there. The card had Mint corners and edges and I do mean mint. I would sit and just look at it under a loupe and shake my head in freakin amazement. The card had all the attributes of a 9 except it was just enough off centered top to bottom to put it in a 8 holder. I had to sell it on ebay in Sep. of 03 and I am still sick over that card. I will hunt it down and get it back one day somehow, even though I did not write the serial number down or keep a picture.image

The Yaz looks smaller than the Rose, both L-R and T-B. May just be the picture, but I'm saying....

I bought a large lot of 71's on teletrade years ago. They looked great. Most were recolored. image

you're right, it is slightly short according to my calcs and would quite possibly wind up as Min. Size anyway......but still purty. image

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

    Now that's disappointing.

But, I guarantee ya, most everyone at some time has picked up a card that was recolored in some way.

Sorry to hear about this - but come on - tell us how ya really feel?
