2009 LP1 log cabin rolls - sell them now or wait?

MaineJimMaineJim Posts: 763 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hello - I'm a bit of a lurker here and have really learned a lot by doing it but now I have a question that seems to be appropriate here. I've recently stumbled on a source for boxes of 2009 LP1 bank rolls and see they are bringing good money on ebay at more than $175 a box. Any opinions on whether I should just sell them while they are hot or is there some really serious money coming for these rolls?

There is currently a market and I doubt it will ever get hotter than it is.
    Just my guess.
I'd sell if I had more.

Prices have already started coming down quite a bit on those. I would sell them sooner rather than later.

Hold em. Sealed LP1's will only get harder to find. What's your rush?

  • You can get lp1 boxes on Ebay for anywhere between $75 and $95....I bought a set for $61 a few weeks ago on the bay....

Check the recently sold boxes to get a more accurate estimate of what to list them for....otherwise your listing will die on the vine imho.

I am holding on to my set...would like to keep one sealed set of each design for the long term. Good luck and happy sales to you.....

They have been hoarded in huge numbers. Take your profit now.

  • Dump them while you can and take the cash.
Collector of about anything I find at work. I love short run $1 stars.

Huge numbers??? The entire production wasn't huge so where did the hoards come from??image

Last two sales were a BIN at $98.99 and an auction at $93....can't really say they are crashing to the ground. Other lower prices probably the result of poor timing and/or poor listings
  • i would hold them, i see $150.00 per box by nov 1.

Thousands and thousands of "flippers" who intend to make a killing. So far this year I have received exactly one 2009-D Log Cabin Lincoln in change.

This is much like the early 1960's roll and bag boom. The end for that boom came in May, 1964. This boom will end as well.

Thanks for the replies - seems to be about even here on the buy/sell suggestions. I mentioned these are bank rolls, but does it matter if they are in the clear plastic styled brinks rolls as far as value and storage. I have mostly the clear plastic rolls and wondered about the plastic causing damage over time.

He's referring to the sealed brinks bank boxes of Log Cabins, not the 2 roll LP1's. I think you got Brinks boxes which have plastic wrapp, and I think those go a little less. It's all supply and demand, the P's have a lower mintage than the D's, and seem to pull more. My Brotherinlaw just picked up 12 NF String wrapped (1/2) boxes 12.50 face log cabin boxes from his bank and 6 boxes of Formative P's, I'd say now's a good time to sell as interest seems to slip over time...Nothing wrong with taking a profit...image

If you can sell these at $175 a box then I say go for it!

Even if you can only sell these at $50 a box, I say go for it as I would love to be able to sell anything I have at, twice the value I paid for it on a regular basis! image

Bank rolls are different than the LP1 rolls. LP1 refers to the US Mint's 2-roll set - these are the ones selling for the premium that you're referring to. Regular bank rolls aren't selling anywhere near $175. Which ones do you have?

    Auction 3

    Auction 4

    True, some sold for less:

    Auction 5

Never. I doubt it's N F String. First question to this new seller should've been, "Do you see the N F String stamp on the bottom of the box?"
To the OP, Brinks rolls bring about 35% less than N F String rolls.

I don't doubt it's an NF String Box, 1) I helped unload them, 2) I know what bank they are from and 3) Yes, they have the NF String logo on the bottom...Maybe he should add the pic of the Logo?

    and

    Thread title:

    << <i> 2009 LP1 log cabin rolls - sell them now or wait? >>

DO NOT MATCH! As already commented by others ....LP1 refers to the Mint Issued rolls sealed in a white box labeled "LP1"

So my comments about previous auction prices being in the high $90 range and hoarding reaction do not apply

The bank rolls will be toast and will eventually get to sell for a buck a roll. Get whatever you can for then NOW!

NF String wraps much more than special mint wrapped coins and to imply that there is something "rare" or "special" about a $25 dollar box of NF String & Son wrapped rolls is playing upon the ignorance of certain eBay bidders.

    image

This is a 2008 Roll of Lincolns.

The NF String & Son box of Log Cabin Lincolns is exactly the same as what can be obtained at any US Bank.

Edited to add: Excuse me, $12.50 bank box. The winner of that auction may be in for a surprise since he/she paid more than double what these go for.

Well....maybe not double but certainly more than what a $25 box is going for.

  • Hold on to the Mint 2 roll sets until the 4th issue is out. My two cents.

My mistake on the title - I didn't realize that LP1 referred only to the special mint boxes and not the actual coin. I was referring to the rolls from the bank, sorry for the confusion on that. I also wondered if the brinks rolls would get damaged over time by being left in the plastic packaging. Does this plastic contain any PVC as that is my worry if I hold onto them for a while. I do have a stack of the LP2 US mint boxes but can't seem to get myself to open them yet.

I had no doubt that a BOX might sell for that, but I was referring to a single roll, and was helping him make the distinction between the MINT rolls and non-mint rolls. image

    Ignorance???

Well lets see, here's what NF String and Sons had to say:

"Yes there are penny boxes that hold 25 rolls
of pennies. However we do not sell these to the public.

These are specially made boxes for exclusive use of one of our
    customers"

Not sure if you were trying to make a point but as I said I'm not the seller but in any event "you" cannot get these at your bank, and Ya I know it's just a Box....
