So did everyone see the SP news. The Rios jersey was the biggest surprise to me. Those creature relics are going to go for big money now!

    I'm off to buy more!

I thought the creature relics were all hand numbered to 10...wasn't the print run known already?

I read this post a couple of pages ago about unannounced short-runs and had a quick question. The back of the hobby boxes indicate there are 60 subjects (actually >60 subjects) in the auto set. Your listing of the print runs above only covers 43 autos. Are you saying that the 43 you mentioned have a lower print run than the 17 you didn't mention? To me, it just seems that 49 and 239 are expected print runs for the Group A and Group B respectively. Not sure where the unannounced short-run comes into play here for the autos. Thanks for any clarification.

Thanks. Kind of wierd that 43 out of 60 would be short printed. Seems like an unannounced short-print would only affect a smaller subset. Does anyone know what the print run of the other group B autos were?

i think alex rios signed about 1000+. Too many to get them back to topps and they had to send out a Congrats you receive this card. I really don't have a clue but would think it is about 500???

I think it's Topps' attempt at making quality pulls that aren't impossible to pull. While the odds of pulling any given short print are slim, by creating so many short prints, the odds of pulling some version there in aren't impossible.

Something else I didn't realize until today is that the A&G Printing Plate 1/1's aren't really 1/1's....If you look on Ebay there are currently 2 different auctions running for "the" Manny Parra plate. I guess there are different versions of the plates. Might be different color versions as I've seen some advertised as black, others as Cyan..

So I go to my shop to get Penny Savers. Grab a box of Ginter, $100. As I pay he tells me about the guy who just got a box from this case. Had a Invisible Man relic. Great I think, the case hit. I bust my box and get blah. Best was a mini Hamilton /50. Common GU/bat cards. Oh well.

*Not collecting the set, so sorry no trades. Gonna sell.

I have the 08 N43 auto AND the Gu version which is numbered 6/15.

I missed out on a press plate tonight just cause I wasn't at my computer when the auction closed. It didn't help that he just hit homer #200. I will be trading
for a Howard plate here and am very happy about that.

    Anyone doing player sets?

It's kind of relief not to have a player set to do, but at the same time, a little bit disappointing.

Granted, had I pulled any short printed Lincy items, I'd have kept them, but I can't compete in his market...too high priced. Thomas is bad enough...I was really lucky to get my silk last year for $75. The rest sold for $100 + it seemed.

    Hi all,

This is my first post to this thread. I'm a vintage non-sports collector, but I also collect a few modern non-sports cards (mainly Sitting Bull & Geronimo). Anyway, I was wondering I did on these auctions? I have no idea how much these kinds of cards usually go for. You can be brutally honest, it won't hurt my feelings. I'm sure prices will come down as the set cools off, but these 1/1's may have never made it to ebay again. Also, if anyone pulls any rare Sitting Bull & Geronimo cards, please keep me in mind. I'd love to eventually have the wood cards from 2008 and 2009 in my collections.

Anyway, this thread has been fun to watch.

    Brent,

As you know, American Indian collectors can be voracious, as can Allen & Ginter set builders. I think you did fine. The Topps Vault card may cool off a bit, but it's for the personal collection, so I wouldn't worry much. Now you need to keep on the look out for the 3 other color plates and the 1 of 1 wood. A silk would look nice too.

I really recommend a silk actually.

    Hi Brent

Welcome to the boards. I had a guy today who was watching me rip. He was making fun of some of the guys in the set...Sitting Bull came up, I told him
that I bet his rarer stuff will go for good money.....as it did! I think you overpaid for the blank back in my opinion. Good luck with the plate set, hopefully
someone here will pull one and you will be half way there!

Hey, has anyone created an excel spreadsheet for the checklist yet?

    << <i>I really recommend a silk actually. >>

I've passed on dozens of high quality 100 year old vintage indian silks as they never really did much for me. It must be the same for other vintage card collectors because the silk prices have never really gone anywhere. Maybe with the new A&G silks, it will spark interest in the vintage silks, or if PSA decides to start grading them.

<< <i>I think you overpaid for the blank back in my opinion. Good luck with the plate set, hopefully someone here will pull one and you will be half way there!

I agree on the black back after I saw what some other blank backs went for yesterday. I think only the Mantle sold for more, and not by much. Oh well, someone else must of wanted it badly too.

I've been lazy Jim. I normally have a spreadsheet and binder inserts made by now. I'll do it before too long.

I should have my trade list up tomorrow after my three boxes arrive. I'll need to do a bunch of trading, 15 boxes didn't even get me to the half way point on my mini set.

Bought a blaster at Target tonight. I think I did okay. I don't have the cards in front of me but I pulled a Matsui relic (nice pinstripe), a National Hero mini, a Hoax mini (the one with the Eiffel Tower on it), and a Cyclopse mini. Not too bad for a blaster I guess.

I have been looking over some completed ebay auctions. A few things jump out at me.

    1) The Dick Perez cards are getting HUGE money
    2) Rip cards numbered to 5 are getting HUGE money
    3) The Phelps GU card, which feature a "patch" on them are gettin 250-300 dollars!
    4) For 225 more you can own an autograph (you don't think the redemption effected the value of these?
    5) Woods are down from last year, many under 75 bucks a piece.
    6) Griffey collectors have to be happy/sad that he isn't in this product. Sup with that?

Totally agree on all points. As a new collector of A&G, I was immediately attracted to the idea of aquiring 1/1 Perez cards for some of my Braves. When I saw the Alex Gordon close near $500, I changed my mind (think I remember someone on this board pulling this last week). It will be interesting to see where the Utley ends up. I imagine player collectors on the registry will drive some of the bigger stars' Perez cards near $1k. I think a bigger story on the Perez cards is that whoever is pulling them isn't necessarily putting them on the Bay. Given the rarity of the Perez cards vs. the rarity of all other limited edition A&G hitting the market, you'd expect much much more of the Perez to have hit the market by now. I've only seen 3 total. Either these are being held by dealers b/c they think prices will rise, held by collectors because they actually love the cards too much to sell (I think this is a big part of it), or they just haven't been pulled yet (unlikely).

I saw that yesterday too! I was scratching my head for a while trying to figure that out; I think it is just a glaring outlier and that seller got REALLY, REALLY lucky.
