Bonus coins in registry sets

How does a bonus coin work in a registry set? For example in the DMPL morgan set there are several coins that are a bonus in PL and a real bonus in DMPL. So if I have coin worth 310 points and I upgrade to a PL which has a bonus of 2 what should the rating on the new coin be? Are bonus coins explained on the site? If so I would appreciate a link.

I will play with the what if function, good idea I have never used it. I did find this info.

Points for Bonuses or Deductions

When considering the ranking of circulated struck Copper Coinage, Mercury Dimes, Roosevelt Dimes, Franklin Half Dollars, and Jefferson Nickels bonus points or deductions may apply for desirable designations such as Red Brown, Red, Full Band, Full Bell Lines, and Full Steps. Mercury Dimes designated "Full Bands” may receive 2 bonus points, for example. Depending on the set, coins with these desirable designations will receive bonus points or in some cases, coins will receive deductions if they do not have the designation. In every set where bonus points or deductions apply, the set composite will list the bonus points or deductions for the set.

For proof coinage, Red Brown Copper, Red Copper, Cameo and Deep Cameo designations may receive bonus points or non-Cameo and non-Deep Cameo coins may receive deductions.

The calculation for bonuses or deductions is as follows:
(Grade + Bonus) x Weight
(Grade – Deduction) x Weight

If you upgrade to a PL and it has a bonus of 2, then you will now have 320 points. [62+2 x 5 = 320]

If you upgrade to a PL and it has a bonus of 2, then you will now have 320 points. [62+2 x 5 = 320] >>

I have never thought of the PCGS Registry in terms of total points,,,, only the published GPA of 66.47 or whatever.

NGC publishes a total point value of say 28,602 points which IMHO means very little. I much prefer the way PCGS scores a set in relation to the 0-70 point grading scale.

This makes it much easier to see how sets compare to one another.
