Ebay Scam of the Day?!?

RichRRichR Posts: 3,978 ✭✭✭✭✭

Anyone else smell a rat here?

This is like Find Waldo...there are numerous red flags flying...

1. Blurry picture.

2. Why is a CC coin in a "Non-cc" United States GSA holder

http://cgi.ebay.com/GSA-UNC-1878-CC-WITH-CORRECTLY-NUMBERED-COA-BLACK-BOX_W0QQitemZ300326490789QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item45ecda92a5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65:10|66:2|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

Or am I being too suspicious?!?

  • Well he has a return policy....So if it wasn't a CC, you'd find out, and ask for a return.

Yeah...except for the soft packs, I've never personally encountered a CC morgan sealed in a "non-CC" style hard case (without the Carson City text).

That could raise suspicions re future resale potential.

I'm also a little leery when someone starts noting damage to the case and doesn't bother to provide a picture of the side of the coin with the mint mark.

He probably bought the GSA with a 78CC (they do exist) and the box and COA separately and is trying to pass them off as a GSA w/ box and cert.

So...in other words, he can bend space and time and have two coins in the same place at the same time?!?

No. He just used the same crappy image in both auctions. He's a NEWB at selling and indicates he's "sorry" he couldn't get a better image. He also places "conspicuous marks" on his coins to protect himself from fraud if a buyer pulls a switch and bait.

I don't think he's scammer. But he's definitely amateurish by not bothering to image the coins he's selling and using some out of focus generic GSA coin image for his listings.

The buyer of the 1880-S GSA seemed pleased.
